Job Description
The City of Shoreview is a vibrant community dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents through comprehensive parks and recreational programs. The City is home to the Shoreview Community Center, a bustling facility that attracts over 500,000 visitors annually. The Community Center features an array of amenities including two banquet rooms, meeting rooms, a fireside lounge reception area, gymnasium, fitness studios, a running/walking track, fitness center, indoor water park, child care center, and locker rooms. Managed by the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, the center offers a wide variety of classes, programs, and events to accommodate the diverse interests of the community.
The Manager on Duty (MOD) position at the Shoreview Community Center is a critical, part-time role designed for individuals who are passionate about customer service and facility management. This role primarily involves working Friday and Saturday evenings from approximately 7:30 pm to 2:00 am, with hours depending on facility rentals. The MOD ensures the smooth operation of evening events and acts as the on-site leader responsible for enforcing community center rules, addressing visitor concerns, and supporting both patrons and staff. Shifts will occasionally extend until setup for the following day is completed, requiring candidates who are adaptable and committed.
As a MOD, you will be working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a mix of scheduled events, rentals, and drop-in patron activities. Your responsibilities will include managing room setups with tables, chairs, and technology; writing daily event reports and check-out forms; performing critical safety and security procedures; and coordinating directly with guests, vendors, and community center staff. This role demands excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving to ensure the community center maintains a positive and safe experience for all visitors.
The position offers valuable hands-on experience in facility management and customer service, making it a great opportunity for those seeking part-time work with community involvement. While the role requires physical stamina including the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds and to stand and walk for extended periods, it also offers a rewarding work environment where employees feel connected to the community. Additionally, associate employees enjoy several benefits including free membership to the Community Center, free parking, direct deposit, and uniform provisions where applicable.
The City of Shoreview is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a culturally diverse workforce. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified individuals with disabilities, fostering an inclusive work environment. If you thrive in active, engaging work settings and enjoy contributing to community well-being, this part-time Manager on Duty role offers a unique chance to be a key player in the success of one of the area's premier recreational facilities.
