USI emphasizes professional development, community engagement, and comprehensive employee benefits, making it a sought-after workplace for individuals pursuing careers in academic and administrative fields. The university offers a wide range of programs and services and strives to create positive and lasting impacts on the region it serves. Known for its vibrant campus life and dedication to student success, USI maintains a strong reputation for excellence in education and support services.
The role being offered is the Manager of Special Events within the University Marketing and Communications Division, specifically in the Special Events and Scheduling Department. This professional role is salaried and exempt from overtime, offering an annual salary of $50,000. It involves managing and overseeing the entire operations involved with the university’s special events hosted across multiple campus venues including the USI University Center, Performance Center Dunn Lobby, and Griffin Center. The Manager of Special Events will be a key figure ensuring seamless event execution, from pre-event planning and staff coordination to vendor management and post-event breakdowns.
This position requires a results-oriented professional with comprehensive experience in event operations, including staffing and technical support for various meetings and functions. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, managing both full-time staff and a sizable team of part-time student workers. Their responsibilities will encompass hiring, training, mentoring, and scheduling event personnel, fostering team empowerment and independence, particularly during after-hours and weekend events.
Beyond staff management, the role demands expertise in audio-visual systems, ADA compliance, fire and safety regulations, and university policy adherence. The manager will provide ongoing training aligned with university standards, ensuring all events meet quality and safety guidelines. They will maintain thorough inventory records of all special events equipment and supplies and oversee shuttle operations related to events.
The position also plays a critical role in enhancing customer service, vendor relations, and cross-department collaboration, notably with University Dining Services. The manager is expected to exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to anticipate and resolve problems efficiently, supporting both the internal team and external event clients. Flexibility to work beyond standard business hours as needed and availability to respond to issues during off-hours is integral to the role.
Overall, this opportunity at USI is perfect for a dedicated event operations professional aiming to apply their expertise within a dynamic educational environment, supported by a robust benefits package including health insurances, retirement contributions, tuition waivers, and wellness resources. As the Manager of Special Events, you will contribute significantly to creating memorable, safe, and well-executed university events that advance the institution’s mission and community engagement.
