The position available is for a Manager of Med Surg, a pivotal leadership role responsible for the supervision, coordination, and evaluation of nursing care on the designated medical-surgical unit. This managerial role demands someone who can effectively oversee the activities of the nursing unit to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of care. The Manager of Med Surg plays a crucial role in supporting the department director by implementing performance improvement initiatives, enforcing hospital policies and procedures, and managing the unit's financial operations strategically. This is a salaried, full-time position designed for an experienced nursing professional with a background in staff management and clinical expertise in medical-surgical care.

The Manager will lead and guide the nursing staff in all aspects of clinical and operational responsibilities. This includes involvement in interviewing, hiring, scheduling, and evaluating nursing personnel to maintain high standards of care quality. The successful candidate will act as a clinical resource and advocate for the nursing unit, fostering a positive work environment and promoting staff development through counseling and disciplinary procedures when necessary. Financial stewardship is also a critical component of this role, as the Manager participates actively in budget planning and financial management to optimize unit resources.

Moreover, the Manager will be responsible for maintaining 24-hour accountability for the nursing unit’s performance and service delivery. They will plan and conduct staff meetings, coordinate unit-related in-services, and ensure that age-specific clinical standards are consistently met. The role calls for someone proactive in identifying opportunities for departmental and interdepartmental process improvements to enhance overall operational efficiency and patient care outcomes. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required for candidates, with a preference for those holding a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Candidates should possess 3 to 5 years of staff nursing experience in a clinical setting and ideally 2 to 3 years of management experience in a Med Surg unit. Those with charge nurse experience combined with substantial Med Surg tenure will also be considered.

Licensure requirements include holding a current Texas State RN license or a compact license, along with a valid Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
