The Restaurant General Manager (RGM) at Taco Bell plays a crucial leadership role, overseeing the daily operations of an individual restaurant unit. The RGM is responsible for ensuring the restaurant runs smoothly, efficiently, and profitably by meeting and exceeding benchmarks such as cleanliness, hospitality, product quality, accuracy, and speed of service. As the face of the restaurant, the RGM holds accountability for cost controls, including food, labor, cash, and other controllable expenses, ensuring these remain within budgetary guidelines. The role involves actively driving sales growth by improving key performance indicators such as 5 Bells scores, CORE compliance, food safety standards, and customer satisfaction metrics. Establishing and maintaining adequate staffing levels for all shifts, conducting performance appraisals, and executing hiring processes are core responsibilities, alongside coaching and developing crew members and managers to meet certification and performance standards.

In addition to management duties, the Restaurant General Manager ensures the restaurant’s cleanliness and compliance with food service sanitation guidelines and all employment laws. Safety is paramount in this role, with the RGM responsible for verifying a safe environment for employees and customers, addressing maintenance and repair issues promptly. Alongside administrative responsibilities, the RGM is expected to participate actively in food preparation and customer service to reinforce a culture of quality and hospitality.

Success in this role is measured through a combination of financial performance metrics, operational audits, staffing effectiveness, and customer experience indicators. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, at least six months of supervisory experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to maintain financial controls while leading and motivating a diverse team. Job Requirements

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 6 months in a shift management or supervisory role preferably in a service-related business
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to learn quickly with a can-do attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain financial controls and coach employees
  • Positive, friendly, and courteous attitude
  • Completion of all required learning zone training and certifications preferred
  • Basic math and reading skills

Job Duties

  • Ensures cost categories including food cost, labor cost, cash and controllable expenses are controlled to company guidelines and budgeted levels
  • Works within the restaurant to produce positive sales growth by demonstrating improvement on 5 Bells, CORE, speed of service and food quality
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained for all days and day parts to meet scheduling requirements
  • Prepares and conducts crew member, shift manager, and assistant general manager performance appraisals
  • Performs the hiring process for crew members, shift leaders, and assistant general managers
  • Coaches and councils all crew members and managers and is responsible for training and developing the team to certification and performance levels
  • Maintains restaurant cleanliness and organization following food service sanitation guidelines and regulations
  • Ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws
  • Verifies the restaurant environment is safe for employees and guests and takes corrective action when needed
  • Ensures preventative maintenance procedures are followed for all equipment and facilities and reports needed repairs
  • Ensures excellent guest service levels on all shifts and properly handles guest complaints
  • Provides relevant feedback to the area coach on operating results
  • Manages turnover by effective selection, training and fostering a positive work environment
  • Prepares food as needed and handles cash register and money when required
