Job Description
Gilbert Unified School District is a reputable educational organization committed to providing exceptional services and support to its diverse student population. Located in Gilbert, Arizona, the District serves a large number of schools and educational programs dedicated to fostering a productive learning environment for students and staff alike. With a strong emphasis on equality, inclusivity, and compliance with federal and state regulations, Gilbert Unified School District ensures that all its programs and services meet the highest standards of quality and fairness. The District is continuously expanding its workforce to maintain these standards, particularly seeking skilled individuals to fill critical roles in its nutrition services sector.
The position of Nutrition Service Manager in Training (Support Staff, Non-Classroom) offers an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in advancing their careers within the food service management field. This role is pivotal in supporting day-to-day operations of the Nutrition Services department, assisting the Food Service Manager in managing both operational and financial responsibilities in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position is a 9.5-month assignment with an hourly rate starting at $18.20, dependent on experience, and requires working eight hours per day. Immediate availability is prioritized, reflecting the urgent need for qualified personnel in this area.
Managers-in-Training are entrusted with learning vital managerial skills such as ordering, receiving, forecasting, inventory management, and preparation of end-of-day paperwork. They also play a key role in training new cafeteria workers, participating in follow-up visits to ensure staff competence, and substituting for absent employees or management when needed. This comprehensive training trajectory prepares candidates to assume full managerial responsibilities in Nutrition Services, ensuring the effective and compliant delivery of meals under the USDA School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
Furthermore, the role involves regular participation in manager meetings and on-site training sessions, providing continuous professional development and alignment with updated regulatory standards. Gilbert Unified School District requires candidates to possess a Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and a Serv-Safe certificate to ensure the highest levels of safety and compliance within school nutrition programs.
Candidates for this role should have sufficient learning development equivalent to a high school curriculum and be capable of performing routine problem-solving and physical tasks associated with light physical effort. The work environment entails extensive exposure to potentially hazardous conditions, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols. This role demands effective interpersonal skills, routine communication, and teamwork within the Nutrition Services department and the broader District.
Gilbert Unified School District values diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics. This commitment ensures an inclusive workplace where all employees have equal opportunities for growth and contribution. The Manager in Training position represents a valuable entry point into a rewarding career in nutrition services, offering candidates hands-on experience, career development, and the chance to make a positive impact on student health and well-being across the District.
