The role of Manager Human Resources in the Total Rewards department at RWJBarnabas Health involves leading the development and execution of strategic compensation initiatives, programs, and practices. This salaried position, located at 379 Campus Dr, Somerset, New Jersey, offers an annual pay range between $133,925 and $189,170, depending on the candidate's education, skills, and professional experience. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that the organization's compensation programs remain competitive, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with its overall objectives. As the manager, you will lead a team of Compensation Specialists and other professionals, guiding them in delivering innovative compensation solutions that attract, develop, and retain top talent.

Responsibilities include designing and administering pay plans, conducting market pricing and salary analyses, developing salary budgets, and managing employee compensation in compliance with government wage and hour laws. This role requires a deep understanding of compensation best practices, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of management. Additionally, the Manager Human Resources will provide expert consultation on compensation issues, facilitate program designs that align business objectives with compensation strategies, and offer coaching to line management and HR leaders to optimize workforce motivation and retention.

The position demands a proactive and self-motivated professional who excels at process improvement and financial management. A master's degree in human resources, business, behavioral sciences, or related fields is preferred, along with 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in compensation leadership. Certification as a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) is highly desirable. Proficiency with HR/payroll systems such as PeopleSoft and advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Microsoft Project are important for success in this role.

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree in human resources, business, behavioral sciences or related discipline preferred
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in leading a compensation function preferred
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred
  • Proven experience in compensation and consulting plans/programs
  • Experience in designing and administering pay plans, market pricing and analysis, salary budget development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of human resources laws, regulations and compensation best practices
  • Strong process improvement and financial management expertise
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a cross functional team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of management and staff
  • Experience with HR/payroll system PeopleSoft preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel), Visio, Microsoft Project

Job Duties

  • Manage compensation specialists and ancillary professionals providing guidance and support
  • Direct design, implementation, and administration of innovative and competitive compensation programs
  • Ensure proper mix of short and long range strategies to support organizational objectives
  • Identify emerging workforce issues related to compensation and recommend program changes
  • Analyze and develop company compensation in relation to government wage and hour regulations
  • Review compensation strategies affecting salary budgets and recommend changes
  • Provide analysis and guidance for market and merit adjustments, manage job analysis and pricing
  • Conduct salary research and survey compilations
  • Evaluate market salary rates for organizational compensation levels
  • Develop recommendations for bonus, incentive, and alternative pay practices
  • Collaborate with HR, Payroll and Corporate HCM staff to implement changes
  • Act as internal consultant on compensation plans and issues
  • Facilitate program design between line management and senior leadership to align with business objectives
  • Coach line management and HR vice presidents on compensation programs
  • Consult with all levels of management on compensation strategies related to attraction, motivation and retention
  • Provide guidance for overall compensation decisions and facilitate management training on compensation communication
  • Manage special compensation projects as needed
