The Manager of Gateway Cargo Operations plays a critical role within Atlas Air Worldwide by overseeing the comprehensive management and optimization of gateway cargo operations. This position is designed for an experienced leader responsible for ensuring adherence to safety regulations, operational efficiency, and service quality in compliance with corporate and government standards. The manager will direct all aspects of cargo handling, including import, export, cargo acceptance, and build-up operations at the gateway, maintaining a seamless flow of goods to meet business objectives.
This role demands strong vendor and equipment management, active collaboration with internal teams and external agencies, and the ability to align gateway activities with the larger corporate strategy. The Manager of Gateway Cargo Operations is also accountable for managing budgets, overseeing contract compliance, ensuring equipment maintenance, and fostering a productive and safety-conscious working environment. Through effective leadership, the manager ensures that both employees and vendors understand and strive toward the company's goals relating to performance, safety, service, and regulatory compliance.
In addition to operational oversight, this position involves stakeholder engagement, including interacting with customers and vendors to provide training and address service requirements. A significant responsibility is maintaining positive relationships with local airport authorities to ensure all operations comply with local policies and reporting standards. The role requires meticulous financial management, including cost control and timely processing of invoices, as well as guaranteeing that cargo scales and other critical equipment meet all necessary calibration and regulatory standards.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 7 years experience in airline operations
- At least 5 years of extensive airline operational experience
- Experience with B747, B777, and B767 cargo operations preferred
- Ability to perform ground and cargo operations including loadmaster duties, hazardous materials handling, warehouse operations, and cargo build up
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple high stress assignments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client and vendor interaction
- Leadership experience managing diverse teams
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to pass TSA and US Customs background checks
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum 7 years experience required with at least 5 years of extensive airline operational experience
- Experience in B747, B777, B767 cargo operations preferred
- Ability to perform all aspects of ground and cargo operations including loadmaster, handling hazardous materials, warehouse operations, cargo build up
- Ability to organize and perform multiple assignments in a high stress environment
- Ability to interact, communicate and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and customers at all management levels

Job Duties
- Responsible for maintaining, supporting and improving the overall gateway operation to support all business units of the company
- Responsible for gateway compliance of all safety regulations and requirements pertaining to the warehouse and personnel
- Provide oversight of all cargo operations through the gateway including import, cargo acceptance, export, and build up procedures
- Ensure equipment in the gateway is operated safely and maintained appropriately
- Achieve all ground operations and corporate goals related to performance, safety, service, and regulatory compliance while ensuring awareness among employees and vendors
- Manage cargo operation to ensure compliance with company and government policies and quality service for customers
- Interact with customers and vendors to ensure proper training in company requirements and procedures
- Monitor all gateway contracts for vendor compliance with contract provisions and service level agreements
- Evaluate work performance of vendors at the gateway
- Interface with local airport authorities to ensure company compliance with local policies and timely submission of reports
- Operate within the budget by keeping costs minimal and ensuring prompt invoice processing
- Ensure cargo scales are maintained and calibrated according to company and regulatory requirements
- Perform additional duties as assigned
