The Kitchen Manager at WOB Bar & Kitchen plays a crucial role in the restaurant's success by overseeing all kitchen operations and ensuring top-notch food quality. This position is full-time and exempt, offering a salary-based compensation complemented by potential bonuses. Key responsibilities include managing food preparation, cooking, presentation, and quality control within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The ideal Kitchen Manager ensures that all food items meet WOB specifications for taste, portion size, and presentation while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards.

In this leadership role, the Kitchen Manager hires and trains kitchen staff, manages inventory and food ordering, controls food costs and waste, and oversees the scheduling and performance evaluations of kitchen personnel. By maintaining organized and timely operational paperwork, including reports, schedules, and forms, the Kitchen Manager supports smooth kitchen functions. They are also responsible for maintaining kitchen equipment in excellent working condition and enforcing compliance with all relevant labor and safety laws. This role demands excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to foster a positive, high-energy work environment conducive to a great customer dining experience.

Job Requirements

  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Must have exceptional hygiene and grooming habits
  • Ability to retain menu recipe knowledge
  • Flexible schedule that can accommodate the needs of the WOB location
  • Ability to withstand frequent exposure to high and low temperatures, smoke, and steam
  • Frequent contact with sanitary latex gloves, sanitation solutions, meats, poultry, seafood, shellfish, dairy and produce items
  • Ability to learn and understand how to prepare all food items on menu to World of Beer specifications, appearance and standards in a timely manner

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in varied kitchen positions including food preparation, line cook, fry cook and expediter preferred
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership role preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Possess strong organizational and decision-making skills
  • Work well in fast-paced setting while maintaining a fun, high energy work environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Management Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire or as required by state, complying with all local requirements

Job Duties

  • Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the restaurant's standards
  • Responsible for ordering food products according to predetermined product specifications and received in correct unit count
  • Control food cost and usage by following proper requisition of products
  • Consistent team player to ensure the success of operations
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in excellent working condition
  • Make employment decisions including interviewing, hiring, evaluating and disciplining kitchen personnel as appropriate
  • Provide orientation of company and operations rules, policies and procedures and oversee training of new kitchen employees
  • Prepare all required paperwork, including forms, reports and schedules in an organized and timely manner
  • Schedule labor as required by anticipated business activity
  • Be knowledgeable of restaurant policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent action
  • Responsible for training kitchen personnel
  • Security issues are always maintained
  • Compliance with all labor laws, to include overtime, minimum wage, minors, etc.
