The position available is the Manager - Culinary, a critical leadership role within the Food Services department at Avera on Louise Health Campus. This role is a regular, salaried position primarily covering day shifts from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend rotation coverage and work possible on evenings or holidays. The Manager - Culinary is responsible for leading the culinary teams with a focus on production and nutrition excellence, aligning with leadership directives. The role includes responsibilities such as purchasing, inventory control, menu development, food preparation, staff development, cleanliness, and scheduling. Additionally, the Manager - Culinary works closely with dietetic professionals to support patient food service needs and adheres to sanitation and quality standards.

Job Requirements

Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
- Six months to one year related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified Dietary Manager from the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals or full 15-hour training from a Food Service Registered Dietitian on common diets, supplement explanation, and resources needed for diet compliance within 90 days
- Drivers license
- ServSafe Certificate from the National Restaurant Association
Job Duties
- Assist and direct operations at assigned Avera locations
- Work closely with the team to manage caterings needed on the campus
- Meet standards established by leadership for food preparation, quality, sanitation, and efficiency
- Deliver all products according to time schedule set for the specific item
- Complete buying to ensure prudent and appropriate purchasing of food and supplies within a set budget utilizing the Avera Pace and Premier contracts
- Maintain an adequate and fiscally responsible inventory
- Assist in year-end inventory
- Assist in the development of menus for patient food service working closely with the dietetic team
- Assist in menu planning for retail area and special functions
- Work closely with Facility Services to ensure that equipment receives timely and appropriate maintenance and remains in good operating condition
- Create and manage employee work schedule for food and nutrition staff according to department and hospital guidelines and policies
- Coordinate daily staffing levels to maximize department efficiency while maintaining positive customer satisfaction
- Collect and maintain records as needed by Performance Improvement, JCAHO, OSHA, HACCP, and Health Department or as by law
- Interview, hire, develop, train, and retain employees
- Plan, assign, and lead work
- Appraise performance
- Reward and coach employees
- Address complaints and resolve problems
