The Manager, Claims Operations role at USAA is a strategic leadership position based in Colorado Springs, CO, designed to oversee auto and other claims operations. This role demands a strong commitment to developing engaged employees through coaching, feedback, and leadership, ensuring the delivery of superior member service and operational excellence. The manager will be responsible for handling claims investigations, evaluations, and negotiations, while also driving continuous improvements in processes to enhance operational efficiency and member satisfaction. The position is offered with a flexible work environment requiring four days per week onsite, with no relocation assistance provided. The salary range for the role is competitive, between $103,450 and $197,730 annually, reflecting experience and market data. USAA does not sponsor visas for this role. The manager will champion change initiatives, remove obstacles for team success, monitor workload volumes, and handle escalations to appropriate resolutions. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree
  • 6 years progressive customer service, operational, military or leadership experience with at least 2 years claims handling
  • 2 years direct team lead, supervisory or management experience
  • Ability to interpret and use data effectively
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and claims handling skills
  • Must obtain and maintain insurance adjuster license within 6 months
  • Must be able to work onsite 4 days per week in Colorado Springs, CO
  • USAA does not provide visa sponsorship
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without immigration support

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 6 years of progressive customer service, operational, military or leadership experience including minimum 2 years claims handling experience
  • 2 years direct team lead, supervisory or management experience
  • Experience using and interpreting data to make decisions
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, customer service and/or claims handling skills
  • Acquisition and maintenance of applicable insurance adjuster license within 6 months in role
  • Current experience as a Claims Manager or Supervisor preferred
  • 2+ years handling complex non-injury auto coverage and liability decisioning preferred
  • 2+ years physical damage and/or auto injury claims experience preferred
  • 2+ years experience handling total loss claims preferred
  • Strong experience coaching and developing claims adjusters preferred
  • US military experience or military spouse/domestic partner preferred

Job Duties

  • Inspect and review quality of claim files and provide feedback to employees as appropriate
  • Responsible for ongoing coaching and driving awareness so employees understand how their work and contributions support the overall claims and Enterprise strategies
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness, member experiences and processes providing feedback to internal partners
  • Build conditions for success removes obstacles, leads and champions change
  • Achieve optimal productivity through leading workload volumes, staffing, training needs, and identifying and implementing appropriate solutions
  • Responsible for ongoing monitoring of work to ensure consistent execution of processes and adherence to guidelines and frameworks
  • Handle escalations and make appropriate decisions based on the policy
  • Facilitate and guide employees through skill identification and developing for career progression
  • Support projects by serving as a subject matter expert
  • Hire, develop, and coach claims employees for results delivery
  • Consistently coach employees on claims handling and find opportunities to improve overall process and engagement
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures
