Job Description

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), established in 1938, is the largest and most influential dermatologic association globally, representing over 21,000 members worldwide. The Academy is dedicated to advancing the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair, and nails through medical, surgical, and cosmetic means. It champions high standards in clinical practice, education, and dermatological research while supporting patient care aimed at achieving and maintaining healthier skin throughout life. The AAD also operates its sister organization, the American Academy of Dermatology Association, which handles government affairs, health policy, and serves as a key player in shaping policies that improve the quality of dermatologic care. The Academy maintains a strong online presence through various social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and Instagram, actively engaging with members and the wider community.

The Manager, Camp Operations role is based at the AAD's Rosemont, IL office and focuses on managing the Camp Discovery program, a vital outreach initiative designed to provide support and care for children with skin conditions. This position is a dynamic, multifaceted leadership role requiring coordination with multiple departments, external partners, vendors, volunteer staff, campers, and their families. The Manager will oversee logistics, marketing communications, and operational consistency across all Camp Discovery locations with the goal of aligning the program's initiatives with the overall AAD mission, vision, and strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities include managing the comprehensive logistics of Camp Discovery weeks, such as contract negotiations, camper and volunteer applications, procurement of supplies and services, and travel arrangements. The role involves close collaboration with legal, executive, and community impact teams to negotiate contracts and maintain budgetary oversight. The Manager acts as a primary representative of the Academy to the camps, ensuring safety and health standards are met through coordination with medical directors and camp staff during Camp sessions. A significant aspect of this role includes leading efforts to unify camp operations and branding, establishing consistent policies and protocols, and fostering collaboration among medical volunteers across all camp locations. The Manager also is responsible for spearheading efforts related to camper and volunteer safety, including background checks, medical malpractice insurance, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Successful management of this complex program demands strong project management and communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and sensitivity to the medical needs of campers and families. The Academy offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement contributions, tuition reimbursement, and paid time off, alongside a hybrid work environment that promotes a balanced and collaborative workplace culture. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a respected organization dedicated to advancing excellence in dermatologic care while making a significant positive impact on the lives of children served by Camp Discovery.
