Job Description
CommonSpirit Memorial is an award-winning, not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare organization dedicated to the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, this establishment provides a comprehensive continuum of care ranging from preventative and primary care to acute hospital services specializing in cancer, cardiac, neuroscience, stroke, and orthopedic treatments. With a strong commitment to excellence, CommonSpirit Memorial has received numerous prestigious recognitions, including accolades from U.S. News and World Report, PINC AI™, CMS, Healthgrades®, and Leapfrog. It is also recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Tennessee, reflecting an outstanding work environment fostered by nearly 4,700 dedicated employees and close to 500 affiliated physicians. Their focus is not only on delivering clinical excellence but also on compassionate care through a team that values integrity, respect, and innovation in health services.
As the Executive Chef at CommonSpirit Memorial, you will hold a crucial leadership role within the food and nutrition services department. Your mission will be to uphold the organization’s core values by ensuring the meticulous preparation, distribution, and storage of food, strictly following departmental policies and procedures. Your dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety and sanitation will be essential to safeguarding patient health and enhancing overall satisfaction. This position emphasizes the importance of leadership, culinary expertise, and operational efficiency in a fast-paced hospital environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for planning and preparing both regular and modified menus, including special events, by adhering to standardized recipes, appropriate portioning, and presentation guidelines. Inventory management will be a key aspect of your duties to optimize product utilization and minimize food waste. You will assist with catering production and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of equipment and work areas. Your positive attitude and commitment to culinary excellence will set the tone for a motivated food service team. Furthermore, you will be directly involved in managing patient non-interactive positions such as cooks and storeroom clerks to ensure regulatory compliance and completion of infection control practices.
The Executive Chef is expected to maintain close communication with both staff and customers to promote patient satisfaction with nutritional services. Frequent patient rounding and visitation will be conducted to assess service quality and gather feedback. Collaborations with other departments will be necessary to ensure nutrition program standards meet regulatory requirements. The role also involves administrative responsibilities such as recruitment, hiring, performance management, staff training, and conducting audits related to sanitation and service standards.
You will actively participate in hospital committees and engage in menu development to foster culinary innovation, sustainability, and waste reduction. Planning menus for special events and catering services across multiple campuses might be required, sometimes necessitating travel. The pay range for this position is $32.30 to $48.05 per hour, reflecting the responsibilities and expertise required. Working as an Executive Chef at CommonSpirit Memorial means being a key player in a dedicated team committed to healing, innovation, and excellent patient care through superior nutrition and culinary services.
