Job Description

Sbarro is a renowned international restaurant chain specializing in Italian cuisine, known primarily for its delicious New York-style pizza slices, pasta, and salads. Established in 1956 by Carmela and Gennaro Sbarro, the company began as a small salumeria in Brooklyn, where "Mama" Carmela made popular pizza slices for busy shift workers seeking quick yet satisfying meals. Due to the tremendous popularity of these slices, a second location was opened, focusing exclusively on pizza. Since then, Sbarro has expanded significantly, operating over 630 locations across 28 countries. The brand is synonymous with quality Italian-American fast casual dining, consistently delivering fresh products in a clean and friendly environment. With decades of experience and a global presence, Sbarro prides itself on its commitment to customer satisfaction and a fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

The role of an Assistant to the General Manager at Sbarro is a dynamic and integral position within the restaurant's management structure. This role involves supporting the General Manager in the achievement of restaurant objectives through effective team leadership and operational oversight. The Assistant helps in assigning, directing, and following up on team members' activities to ensure that the restaurant consistently provides quality products in a safe and clean environment to every customer. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with company policies, as well as federal, state, and local laws, all while maintaining high standards of business operations. This position requires excellent communication skills for effective interaction with both the restaurant management team and all team members.

Though the Assistant role does not typically include direct supervision, it entails providing functional guidance to team members, including delegating tasks, offering instruction, and following up to ensure tasks are completed properly. The Assistant Manager plays a critical role in opening and closing processes during their shifts and may offer secondary supervision in the General Manager's absence. This is a fast-paced position requiring the ability to multitask, work efficiently within established timeframes, and maintain a cooperative and customer-focused attitude. The job also requires considerable standing, concentration, and attention to detail.

Key accountabilities for this position include training and monitoring food safety practices, ensuring adherence to health and sanitation regulations, maintaining safe working conditions, monitoring team performance for product quality and customer satisfaction, managing food costs, labor usage, cash control procedures, and ongoing team member training and coaching. Additionally, the Assistant supports the General Manager with overall store operations, including monitoring inventories, profit and loss statements, and scheduling. This role is pivotal to maintaining the operational excellence and customer experience that Sbarro is known for.

Working conditions demand flexibility to accommodate varying schedules aligned with business needs, the physical ability to handle prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, along with safe operation of kitchen equipment. Professional presentation and adherence to company grooming standards are also expected. Overall, the Assistant to the General Manager is a skilled leader dedicated to supporting both the customers and the team to drive the success of the restaurant.
