Job Description

The Castle Hill YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Greater New York, is currently seeking a Maintenance Worker/Porter to join its team. This role is vital for ensuring that the facility remains safe, clean, and attractive for all members and visitors. As a Maintenance Worker/Porter at Castle Hill YMCA, you will be responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties. These include securing the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned areas by performing tasks such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, and recycling. In addition, you will engage in window washing, pool cleaning, outdoor maintenance including lawn care and snow removal, and routine repairs. The position requires operating both motorized and non-motorized equipment efficiently and safely.
Furthermore, the role involves maintaining the security of the property during shifts and reporting any incidents or hazardous conditions promptly to the supervisor. Maintenance Workers/Porters are also expected to replenish supplies such as soap and paper towels, set up furniture and rooms for events, and carry out specialized tasks like stripping and waxing floors or shampooing rugs as needed. All work must comply with the standards and regulations set forth by local governmental departments including the Department of Health, Department of Buildings, Fire Department, Housing Preservation and Development, and the Environmental Control Board. Following the YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures is also mandatory to ensure a consistent standard of cleanliness and safety.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One to three years of related experience and increased area of responsibility
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe and efficient use
- Willingness to obtain the YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one year of attaining the position
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Ensure the Castle Hill YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment
- May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning
- Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment
- Records and reports all needed repairs
- Repairs as directed
- Ensures the Castle Hill YMCA building and property are secure during shift and reports incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor
- Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies
- May set up furniture and/or rooms for events
- Strip and wax floors and shampoo rugs as needed
- Follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments
- Follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures
