Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of six months of related experience
  • knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
  • basic understanding of upkeep and care of equipment
  • understanding of light electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry
  • understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals and their safe use
  • ability to obtain the YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one year of employment

Job Duties

  • Ensure the branch is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining the upkeep of the assigned area and equipment
  • perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning
  • operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment
  • record and report all needed repairs
  • conduct repairs as directed
  • ensure the branch building and property are secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor
  • replace soap, paper towels, and other supplies
  • set up furniture and/or rooms for events
  • strip and wax the floors and shampoo rugs as needed
  • follow the standards of the DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD, and ECB Departments
  • follow YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures
  • maintain a flexible schedule, open to working nights and weekends
