Chatham County Parks and Recreation is currently seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker I to join their team. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and have a keen interest in landscaping and maintenance. The role involves performing various tasks that contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of parks and recreational facilities within the county. Responsibilities include mowing, planting, maintaining lawns and hedges, minor equipment repairs, and general groundskeeping tasks. Job Requirements

Completion of eighth grade
must be able to read, write, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
must be able to drive a truck with an attached trailer
must be able to use and maintain hand tools
must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
you are required to provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours

Job Qualifications

must be able to use and maintain hand tools
must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
you are required to provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours
experience in commercial or residential lawn maintenance (preferred)

Job Duties

Mow, water, edge, trim, and maintain parks and other landscaped areas
plant, weed, and cultivate lawns, hedges, and flowers
lay sod and control garden pests with the use of chemicals
ensure the grounds are well maintained and clean by picking up paper and trash, making minor repairs to sprinkler systems and maintenance equipment, applying fertilizer and other lawn chemicals, raking leaves, preparing flower beds, repairing and sharpening hand tools, and cleaning public facilities
repair playground equipment, bleachers, tennis courts, fences, chalk ball fields, and other facilities
perform physical labor in varied weather conditions, work in close areas, bend, walk significant distances, and maintain records on all work activities
work a five (5) day schedule that may include working weekends and holidays, and during emergency situations
perform other duties as assigned
