The role available at Dismas Charities is for a Physical Plant Maintenance Worker, a vital position responsible for the upkeep and management of the organization's physical facilities. This part-time role offers 16 to 20 hours of work per week, primarily during mornings and weekends, with a flexible schedule option that accommodates other commitments. The hourly pay rate is $22.84, reflecting competitive compensation for the responsibilities and skills required. The Maintenance Worker reports directly to the Director and plays a crucial role in ensuring that all facilities are well-maintained, safe, and functional to support the organization's programs and services.

In this role, the Maintenance Worker is tasked with a variety of duties including painting, repairing, and installing building components such as counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, and doors. The position may also involve electrical and mechanical system maintenance if the worker holds the necessary licenses. For all licensed work, coordination with certified external vendors is required to ensure compliance and quality standards. Landscaping responsibilities include mowing, trimming, raking, and the upkeep of lawn sprinklers, trees, flowers, and shrubs, helping maintain an inviting and safe exterior environment. Regular preventive maintenance is a key part of the job, requiring thorough inspections and prompt reporting of issues to the supervisor or Director. Maintaining records of routine maintenance activities is also essential. The role demands strict adherence to OSHA safety regulations, especially when working with tools, solvents, paints, chemicals, or electrical systems, to ensure both personal safety and compliance with government standards.

The Maintenance Worker must be familiar with organizational policies and procedures outlined in the Physical Plant Manual and facilities Operations Manual, including emergency drills, life safety, facility sanitation, and unusual occurrence procedures. This ensures preparedness and consistent adherence to established operational standards. Strong competencies in ethics, customer service, planning and organizing, safety, quality, dependability, and initiative are critical for success in this position. Candidates must have at least a high school diploma or GED and preferably two years of paid general maintenance experience. Additional skills include the ability to read and interpret maintenance instructions, write reports, and communicate effectively. A valid driver’s license without restrictions and the ability to pass criminal background checks are mandatory. Computer literacy, including a working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel, is preferred.

The physical demands of the role require the worker to handle various manual tasks including lifting weights up to 100 pounds occasionally, climbing ladders, and spending time sitting, standing, or walking as needed. The work environment may expose the employee to outside weather conditions and sometimes risk of electrical shock.
