The Maintenance Utility Worker role at UniFirst is integral to supporting the company’s smooth operations and facility upkeep. As a valued member of the Maintenance Department, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks aimed at maintaining the workplace’s building and equipment systems. This role is essential in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of UniFirst facilities. The position offers a Monday through Friday work week with occasional night and weekend overtime, allowing for a balanced work-life rhythm with flexibility during peak periods.
In this role, you will assist with plant utility functions such as plant cleaning using specialized equipment, equipment maintenance, loading and unloading deliveries, and executing painting and landscaping duties. Your hands-on involvement includes operating industrial machinery like forklifts and floor scrubbers, maintaining safety and efficiency standards throughout the facility. Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
- Ability to operate powered industrial equipment including forklifts, floor scrubbers, and scissor lifts
- Experience using basic hand and power tools
- Ability to read, comprehend and interpret procedures and instructions in English
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers and managers
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Utilize equipment to perform plant cleaning operations including floor scrubbers, lint and dust removal devices, outside rubbish removal, equipment cleaning, and pit / trench screen cleaning
- Perform miscellaneous painting tasks throughout the plant or outside on facility grounds
- Operate powered industrial forklifts / lifts throughout the facility to assist in relocating materials
- Assist in loading and unloading trucks
- Assist with production receiving activities
- Perform various levels of facilities upkeep including landscaping, snow removal, and other removal operations
- Perform light equipment maintenance tasks including trench screen cleaning, lint and dust blowdown of facilities and equipment, fluid level checks, light bulb replacement, ceiling tile replacement, cart cleaning and repair, and pressure washing after appropriate training
- Upon proper training and certification, operate company vehicles such as shuttle trucks or route trucks
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
