Job Description

BH is a people-first multifamily owner and operator that has grown from a small startup into one of the largest commercial real estate companies in the United States. Founded in 1993, BH has continuously demonstrated a commitment to doing business the right way while investing deeply in its team and community. Now managing over 100,000 apartment units nationwide and employing over 2,800 individuals, BH takes pride in owning its processes in-house and being recognized by Fortune Magazine for its excellence in workplace culture. The company has been honored as the "Best Workplace for Women," "Best Workplace for Millennials," and among the "Best Workplaces for Diversity." BH operates with a spirit of innovation and a can-do attitude, striving every day to construct a smarter way to live, invest, manage, and grow in the multifamily housing sector.

As a multifamily property management company, BH is passionate about setting industry standards and creating an inclusive environment that welcomes ambitious professionals who think big and pay attention to details. The culture at BH reflects a balance between taking work seriously and maintaining a fun and collaborative atmosphere. The company encourages accountability, continuous improvement, and the ability to turn challenges into opportunities.

The role of the Service Technician at BH is vital to maintaining the quality and safety of the company’s residential communities. Reporting directly to the Community Manager, this full-time position is responsible for overseeing the physical assets of the property through regular maintenance, repairs, and preventative programs. The Service Technician will handle apartment make-readies, assist with rehabilitation or construction projects, and ensure the upkeep of both interior and exterior property areas. The focus is not only on completing tasks but on delivering service that meets and exceeds the expectations of both internal and external customers. Emphasizing professionalism and courtesy, the technician represents BH’s commitment to excellence in everything they do.

Working as a Service Technician at BH involves using industry-specific technology to prioritize and respond to service requests promptly and efficiently. This position requires performing HVAC and appliance repairs, maintaining common areas, identifying and reporting hazardous conditions, and supporting preventative maintenance programs. The Service Technician will also collaborate with office teams and management to schedule apartment preparations to ensure move-in readiness. Managing inventory, securing tools, posting community communications like notices to vacate, and sharing on-call responsibilities are other essential functions.

Candidates for this role must possess a minimum of three years of progressive maintenance experience, demonstrate intermediate computer skills relevant to the industry, and be capable of working independently while prioritizing tasks. A high school diploma is preferred, alongside certifications such as EPA Core, Type I-Appliances, and Type II-HVAC, which must be obtained at or soon after hire. The position demands physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform a wide range of movements including bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing, and work outdoors in all weather conditions. The Service Technician must also have their own industry-specific hand tools and the ability to operate a motor vehicle when required.

This role offers a dynamic work schedule mainly Monday through Friday, though flexibility is essential to accommodate overtime, extended hours, and participation in a rotating on-call schedule to meet the business needs of the community. BH is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering diversity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement, aiming to provide a workplace where all voices are valued and all employees can thrive. Compensation for this position is competitive and reflects geographic location, experience, and skill level. Joining BH means being part of a forward-thinking team dedicated to making multifamily living better for employees and residents alike.
