The role of the Maintenance Engineer at Courtyard by Marriott involves attending to guest repair requests and resolving maintenance issues with minimal supervision. This position requires a diverse skill set that spans multiple disciplines including air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment, and general building management. The Maintenance Engineer will perform preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of tools, equipment, and machinery to ensure optimal functionality. They must also skillfully troubleshoot and carry out complex repairs on physical property, HVAC, refrigeration systems, plumbing, electrical equipment, and pool heaters, ensuring all work meets company standards as well as local and national codes.

A key responsibility is the use of various engineering computer programs related to preventive maintenance and energy management, which requires advanced technical proficiency. The engineer will also be expected to play a role in training and mentoring other engineering staff, demonstrating leadership qualities even in a non-management capacity. Effective communication is crucial, as the engineer must document daily activities and communicate problems across shifts via approved channels to maintain operational continuity. Physical tasks such as moving, lifting, bending, and working in various physical positions are required, with safety and professionalism emphasized throughout. In addition to technical responsibilities, this role also requires interaction with guests, adherence to company safety policies, and a professional appearance.

The maintenance engineer at Courtyard is integral to maintaining the high standards of the hotel environment, proactively addressing operational issues and contributing to the overall guest experience. The position requires a candidate with a high school diploma or GED, vocational training, and at least two years of relevant maintenance experience in a hotel or similar environment. Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification is mandatory, along with compliance with federal and state licensing requirements. A valid driver's license is also necessary for certain duties involving transportation of parts or movement between sites.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Job Duties

  • respond to guest repair requests
  • communicate with guests and customers to resolve maintenance issues
  • perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
  • visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines
  • maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts
  • perform complex repairs on physical property, electrical, plumbing and mechanical equipment
  • troubleshoot and repair various hotel equipment
  • use Lockout/Tagout system before maintenance
  • perform advanced troubleshooting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems
  • train and mentor other engineers
  • perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities including readings and rounds
  • comply with all safety and security policies and procedures
  • welcome and acknowledge guests according to company standards
  • maintain cleanliness and professional appearance
  • adhere to quality expectations and standards
  • develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • move, lift, carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • perform other reasonable job duties as requested
