The role of the General Maintenance Technician at Wake Forest University is a full-time position designed for skilled professionals capable of performing both reactive and preventive maintenance across a broad spectrum of building systems with minimal supervision. This role demands a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and proficiency in the maintenance and repair of various campus facilities. The technician will be responsible for performing hands-on maintenance in multiple trades including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting, ensuring systems are reliable and function optimally to support campus operations. The technician will also utilize technology such as an iPad and Maintenance Management Systems to document and track work orders, communicate effectively with internal stakeholders including students, faculty, and staff, and uphold strict safety standards. The nature of this job involves both skilled labor and customer service as the technician directly contributes to the safety, comfort, and operational readiness of campus facilities. This role may be designated as essential personnel during emergency or unusual conditions, requiring availability for recall outside of normal working hours to support business continuity. Job Requirements
- high school diploma plus specialized training with five to ten years related experience or equivalent combination
- proficient knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building interior systems
- valid driver license with good driving record and must be insurable
- ability to effectively communicate in English
- ability to read and abide by safety policies
- ability to use computer software and Maintenance Management Systems on devices
- capable of performing heavy physical work including climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and grasping
- visual acuity for machine operation and inspections
- able to work with diverse populations
Job Qualifications

- technical license or certification preferred
Job Duties
- perform maintenance and repair on all types of industrial HVAC units
- perform HVAC maintenance tasks such as changing filters and fan belts, adjusting dampers and valves, opening HVAC drains, responding to HVAC work requests
- perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment as scheduled
- understand and operate Building Management Control Systems
- perform repairs to electrical systems including installation of motors and belts
- respond to electrical work requests
- perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment as scheduled
- stop overflowing and clogged toilets, unstop showers and sinks, perform repairs to valves, gaskets, and lines
- respond to plumbing work requests
- perform preventive maintenance on plumbing equipment
- perform carpentry repairs on doors, door hardware, windows, walls, shelving, and storm window fabrication
- perform painting tasks such as patching, caulking, priming, staining, and painting ceilings, walls, doors, and windows
- serve as a general maintenance technician in assigned buildings handling preventive maintenance tasks and work orders
- communicate effectively with diverse individuals
- perform other duties as assigned
- may be designated as essential personnel during campus emergencies and subject to recall
- provide excellent service to internal and external customers
- report all safety matters to supervisors and safety director
- follow university and departmental policies and procedures
