The Maintenance Tech I role at UniFirst is an entry-level position focused on supporting the maintenance department's efforts in ensuring the optimal functioning and safety of industrial equipment and systems. This full-time position is structured around a standard Monday through Friday work schedule, with occasional night and weekend overtime required to meet operational needs. UniFirst provides comprehensive on-the-job training to equip new hires with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed. The role primarily involves hands-on work with industrial machinery, requiring proficiency in a variety of maintenance tasks such as repair, installation, troubleshooting, and system testing.
The Maintenance Tech I will utilize precision measurement tools, electronic testing devices, and hand/power tools to diagnose and resolve equipment issues. Responsibilities also include performing routine safety inspections, conducting chemical testing on boiler and wastewater treatment systems, and maintaining accurate operational records through computerized management systems. Candidates will be expected to follow technical documentation such as blueprints, schematics, operation manuals, and engineering specifications to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
This role demands a detail-oriented and safety-conscious mindset, with the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 80 lbs and working in various conditions. The successful candidate will have a minimum of six months' experience with industrial processing equipment maintenance or equivalent military experience, combined with a willingness to learn and adapt within a fast-paced, growing company. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- must be at least 18 years of age
- minimum of 6 months work experience repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment or military experience
- valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- must pass UniFirst’s maintenance knowledge assessment test
- ability to read blueprints and schematics
- ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English
- basic computer and Microsoft Office skills
- Lockout/Tagout experience
- ability to work overtime as needed
- ability to lift up to 80 lbs
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Utilize hand/power tools, precision measurement tools, and electronic testing devices
- ensure safe operation of machinery, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components
- follow blueprints, schematics, operation manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications
- troubleshoot sources of equipment problems through observation and use of precision measuring and testing instruments
- perform boiler chemical and wastewater pre-treatment system testing, record results in logbooks/computer systems and make necessary chemical adjustments as required
- perform daily and weekly safety checks on boilers and make necessary repairs
- record and analyze meter readings of utilities and take corrective actions when necessary
- perform daily and weekly location/system safety checks and follow up to address concerns
- inspect motor, belts, fluid levels, replace filters and perform other maintenance actions per procedures
- inspect, clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other equipment parts according to manuals
- utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System
- perform other duties as assigned by leadership
