Job Description
FedEx is a global leader in logistics, providing rapid, reliable, and time-definite delivery services to businesses and consumers worldwide. As a well-established multinational corporation, FedEx specializes in express transportation, e-commerce, and supply chain management solutions. Their commitment to innovation and excellence in service has positioned them as a preferred partner across multiple industries. FedEx employs a vast workforce of dedicated professionals who maintain their high standards in customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. They foster an inclusive work environment focused on safety, diversity, and professional development to empower their employees. This particular position is based in Grove City, Ohio, and requires full-time, in-person attendance. The pay range for the Maintenance Technician III varies between $24.75 and $38.43 per hour, depending on experience and other job-related factors.
The Maintenance Technician III at FedEx plays a critical role in supporting the industrial maintenance of material handling systems. This position involves performing preventative and predictive maintenance, as well as troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical and electrical systems integral to material handling operations. The technician applies knowledge in mechanical power transmission, electrical circuits, programmable logic controllers (PLC)/controls, welding, fabrication, and other industrial maintenance disciplines. Working with minimal supervision, this role requires the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, manufacturer manuals, and engineering specifications to diagnose system faults accurately and perform necessary repairs or escalate issues when appropriate. The technician will also respond promptly to system failures and sort calls to ensure smooth operation of material handling equipment.
Additionally, proficiency in using Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software is required for logging work activities and retrieving maintenance data. The role demands strong problem-solving abilities and complex troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and PLC/control systems. This position supports and sometimes assists lower-level technicians and may develop scopes of work and project plans for small-scale projects at the local level. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, as the work hours may span various days and shifts to meet business needs. Safety is a paramount focus, and the technician must adhere to all safety protocols, participate in safety meetings and training, and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment.
Technicians at this level develop advanced competencies such as understanding power transmission concepts like gear ratios, service factors, and horsepower to repair or replace components when exact parts are unavailable. They should be skilled in interpreting and modifying mechanical drawings, using hand and power tools safely, and performing welding tasks using MIG, TIG, and stick methods. Electrical responsibilities include resistance testing de-energized circuits with digital multimeters, diagnosing motor control circuits, and reading electrical schematics. PLC handling encompasses going online with processors for troubleshooting, burning EEPROMs, and understanding network protocols like ControlNet and DeviceNet. This role offers significant opportunities for professional growth and technical skill enhancement within a global, dynamic organization.
