Job Description
Balfour Beatty Communities (BBC) is a leading real estate owner, operator, and developer dedicated to providing quality residential communities that people are proud to call home. As a part of the larger Balfour Beatty plc, an international infrastructure group, BBC focuses on delivering exceptional living experiences by fostering a culture of care that values residents, partners, communities, and employees alike. The organization believes that genuine care—demonstrated through sincerity, empathy, and creativity—is the foundation for building lasting connections and ensuring resident satisfaction across the communities they manage and develop.
The Maintenance Technician role is key to supporting BBC's mission by maintaining the physical condition of the residential community and providing outstanding customer service to residents. This position involves diagnosing maintenance issues, making timely repairs, and addressing resident service requests efficiently and professionally. This role ensures that community assets—from HVAC systems to electrical and plumbing infrastructure—operate smoothly and safely. BBC has established a Maintenance Technician Job Family framework that clearly defines the roles, responsibilities, and career progression opportunities within the maintenance function, including the levels Maintenance Trainee, Maintenance Technician I, II, and III. This framework aims to attract, retain, and develop maintenance professionals by providing ongoing training and pathways for career advancement.
Balfour Beatty Communities emphasizes a collaborative and caring workplace culture where employees are supported in their professional growth. Maintenance Technicians at BBC work within teams committed to upholding the company’s safety and environmental policies while delivering services that enhance the resident experience. Employees benefit from comprehensive training plans tailored to their career level and are encouraged to acquire relevant certifications within the first year of employment or promotion. The company provides a competitive benefits package including medical and dental insurance available the first of the month following hire, company-paid life insurance, 401K retirement plans with employer matching, paid time off including sick leave, vacation, personal days, and more. BBC also supports its employees with short- and long-term disability coverage, parental leave, and encourages community engagement through volunteer days.
Not only does this role require technical maintenance skills such as electrical, plumbing, and carpentry, but it also demands excellent troubleshooting abilities and a commitment to customer service excellence. Technicians are expected to work a rotating on-call schedule that ensures 24/7 maintenance coverage, reflecting the company's dedication to resident satisfaction and operational reliability. Physical demands include frequent standing, climbing, balancing, and lifting of moderately heavy equipment, highlighting the dynamic nature of the work environment that spans both indoor maintenance facilities and outdoor community properties.
Joining Balfour Beatty Communities as a Maintenance Technician provides the opportunity to be part of a respected, worldwide infrastructure group with a vibrant culture focused on making communities better places to live. Candidates passionate about maintenance excellence, continual learning, and community service are encouraged to apply and grow their careers in a supportive, innovative environment where their contributions truly matter.
