Smithfield is currently looking for a Maintenance Technician to join their fast-paced food processing plant team. This role is critical for ensuring smooth and uninterrupted production by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment. The ideal Maintenance Technician is a versatile expert with skills in electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, and fabrication. They take pride in tackling both routine maintenance and challenging system repairs with agility and technical know-how. From creating work orders using SAP to responding promptly to emergencies, this individual is essential to keeping the plant operations running at optimal performance levels. This position offers competitive hourly wages ranging from $22.75 to $26.75 per hour, plus a $0.25 hourly shift differential for second shift workers, along with an excellent benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, and education benefits. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 1+ years of related experience and/or training in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment or 4 years direct experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment
- vocational diploma, technical diploma or associate degree from technical maintenance or vocational school preferred
- ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of personnel and contractors
- ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissor lift or other powered industrial trucks (PIT)
- ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- ability to read and execute work orders, write daily reports, translate equipment manuals
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1+ years of experience or training in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance
- vocational diploma, technical diploma or associate degree from a technical or vocational school preferred
- ability to effectively function in a team environment
- good interpersonal skills to interact with team personnel and contractors
- ability to read and execute work orders
- skill in writing daily reports
- competency in translating equipment manuals
- experience operating powered industrial trucks such as forklift, genie lift or scissor lift
Job Duties
- Review work orders to assess tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts and supplies needed
- create work orders using SAP
- respond quickly to emergency calls with appropriate tools and equipment
- read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and manuals to diagnose and repair issues
- monitor machinery during operation to detect malfunctions
- disassemble, troubleshoot, replace faulty parts, reassemble and test mechanical equipment
- fabricate replacement parts through welding, cutting and sheet metal work
- perform regular preventive maintenance on pumps, packaging and slicing equipment
- install and maintain mechanical equipment, piping and electrical controls according to specifications and safety regulations
- install electrical, water, gas and drain lines for new equipment
- adhere to preventive and predictive maintenance schedules
- follow company safety protocols including lockout/tagout procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices
