Job Description

Nordstrom, Inc. is a leading luxury department store chain renowned for its exceptional customer service, high-quality merchandise, and meticulously maintained stores. Established over a century ago, Nordstrom has grown into a prominent retailer in the United States, known for its dedication to providing a premium shopping experience that caters to fashion-conscious customers. The company operates a variety of store formats including full-line stores, Nordstrom Rack, and outlet stores, located across multiple regions. At Nordstrom, the mission is to ensure a safe, inviting environment for both customers and employees while maintaining operational excellence through a highly skilled facilities team. The Maintenance Technician II position is an integral role within Nordstrom's Facilities team, responsible for leading and managing the upkeep and functionality of various stores within a business node, including both Nordstrom full-line stores and Nordstrom Rack locations.

The Maintenance Technician II acts as a lead technician supporting the Facility Manager to ensure the daily readiness of the stores by performing critical maintenance and repair tasks and heading a team to deliver safe, well-functioning store environments. This role emphasizes operational reliability across numerous building systems such as HVAC, vertical transportation (elevators and escalators), restaurants, store entries, signage, and overall building infrastructure. The Maintenance Technician II will be highly involved in preventive maintenance routines scheduled on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual basis, as well as addressing on-demand break-fix requests. The technician is also expected to leverage their troubleshooting expertise to diagnose and resolve complex electrical, mechanical, and system-related issues that affect store operations.

Key responsibilities include leading equipment and building inspections, monitoring building control systems, responding rapidly to emergencies, and ensuring that maintenance management systems (CMMS) are up to date with accurate records. This role demands active communication and collaboration with store leadership, vendors, contractors, and property managers to coordinate maintenance activities and support administrative needs such as ordering parts and managing purchase orders. The Maintenance Technician II is also tasked with promoting a culture of safety by adhering to and championing workplace safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), ergonomics, and machine guarding.

This position requires a strong foundation in mechanical maintenance with significant experience in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry systems. The ideal candidate will possess supervisory skills to mentor and guide junior technicians, enabling the continuous development of the team’s technical competencies. The role often necessitates flexibility in working hours, including the possibility of days, evenings, weekends, and off-hours shifts. Physical requirements encompass tasks like loading, unloading, lifting heavy materials up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and performing manual labor.

Located in regions including California, the pay range for this role typically varies between $25.75 and $43.00 per hour depending on experience, skills, and location. Nordstrom offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports the holistic well-being of its employees, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, paid time off, life insurance, and disability coverage. With a strong emphasis on employee growth, safety, and operational excellence, this Maintenance Technician II role provides a dynamic career path in a respected retail environment dedicated to quality and customer satisfaction.
