The Maintenance Supervisor role at UniFirst is an essential position responsible for ensuring that all facility equipment operates efficiently and effectively. The supervisor oversees maintenance staff, identifies opportunities to improve processes and maintenance practices, and leads ongoing training initiatives. This full-time position follows a Monday - Friday work schedule with occasional night and weekend overtime, providing stability while demanding flexibility when necessary. The Maintenance Supervisor will work directly with the Production Manager to manage budgets related to building upkeep, equipment maintenance, capital expenditures, and parts and labor costs.
As a Maintenance Supervisor, you will diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, inspect machinery, perform welding repairs, troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and conduct preventive maintenance. You'll also manage maintenance regulatory compliance and safety protocols, including confined space entry and lockout/tagout procedures. The role requires hands-on involvement as well as leadership capabilities, such as assigning work to technicians, monitoring their training needs, and using computerized maintenance management systems to streamline workflow and record-keeping.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two-year technical degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years experience repairing industrial processing equipment
- Minimum of 2 years experience supervising maintenance personnel preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Pass maintenance knowledge assessment
- Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Experience with lockout/tagout safety protocols
- Ability to perform welding and use hand and power tools
- Ability to lift 80 lbs
- Willingness to work overtime including nights and weekends as needed
Job Qualifications
- High school and/or GED preferred
- Two-year technical degree in an appropriate background preferred
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record required
- Must pass UniFirst’s maintenance knowledge assessment
- Knowledgeable in maintenance equipment including wiring, electrical, mechanical, electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing
- Minimum of 3 years repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment
- Applicable military experience considered
- Minimum of 2 years supervising maintenance personnel preferred
- Maintenance administration experience including planning, scheduling, budgeting, negotiating, parts management, vendor management, and maintenance management systems
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics
- Ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience in hand and power tools
- Lockout/Tagout experience
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
Job Duties
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine corrective action by checking blueprints, schematics, repair manuals and parts catalogs
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions
- Perform basic welding activities to effect repairs on facilities and equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and associated control systems
- Perform and assign all preventive maintenance on facility and production assets
- Follow blueprints, schematics, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications using a documented schedule
- Perform boiler chemical and wastewater pre-treatment system testing, record results in logbooks/computer systems and make necessary chemical adjustments as required
- Manage and assign all equipment maintenance, including repairs which cannot be completed during standard hours
- Assume responsibility for all shifts in the maintenance department
- Oversee and implement all maintenance related regulatory and environmental compliance requirements
- Assume responsibility for all aspects of safety within the maintenance department
- Perform Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout procedures where appropriate
- Monitor training status of technicians and provide time for required training as needed
- Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System
- Partner with the Production Manager to develop, manage and maintain budget for building, equipment, capital expenditures and parts/labor
- Train and develop maintenance partners
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
