The Maintenance Supervisor role is an integral leadership position within this organization. Located within the Greensboro, NC area, this position operates primarily on the 3rd shift, accommodating those who excel in dynamic, high-energy environments. The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee maintenance staff, ensuring proper work assignment, performance management, and growth opportunities that align with company goals and standards. This leadership role includes supervising both routine maintenance and capital projects, maintaining mechanical and electrical systems such as ammonia refrigeration, boilers, compressors, and high-speed packaging lines. The supervisor ensures safety and compliance standards are met, utilizing their expertise to optimize equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness.

In this position, the Maintenance Supervisor will also utilize computerized maintenance management systems to schedule preventative maintenance and monitor asset utilization, ensuring all utility functions adequately support production needs. The role demands detailed record-keeping, documentation of maintenance activities, incident reports, and technical documentation management related to PLCs, instrumentation, and equipment operation. Furthermore, the Supervisor will enforce company policies including safety, food safety, and regulatory compliance, working closely with various stakeholders including contractors, vendors, and suppliers.

The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of industrial maintenance experience in the food and beverage manufacturing sector or a comparable background, paired with solid experience in supervising teams. Expertise in mechanical and electrical systems, such as boilers, refrigeration units, and programmable logic controls (PLCs), is essential. This position requires someone who can read electrical schematics, troubleshoot complex systems, and apply basic mathematical calculations to solve maintenance challenges effectively. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the food industry and a proven track record in implementing safety and security policies reflect the company's commitment to quality and compliance.

Additional responsibilities include engaging in leadership activities like planning, evaluating, organizing, and delegating tasks, all of which contribute to the operational success of the plant. This role demands flexibility, as it requires working in various environmental conditions typical of manufacturing facilities, including exposure to noise, varying temperatures, and physical activities such as bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds regularly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and maintenance planning software is necessary, with knowledge of ERP systems like SAP considered a plus.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years industrial maintenance experience within food/beverage manufacturing industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous supervisor experience required
  • Working knowledge of boilers, refrigeration, Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs), electrical, cooling towers, ammonia compressors and packaging equipment
  • Skills required in electronics, instrumentation and electrical systems and troubleshooting, reading electrical schematics and understand ladder logic
  • Ability to calculate basic mathematical equations and formulas
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices in the food industry
  • Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to follow all Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Maintenance Planning software, SAP/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system experience a plus
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Organized with ability to prioritize and pay attention to the details
  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Ability to select, lead, coach, influence, motivate, develop, engage, and retain a team
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends in support of plant operations
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment which includes but not limited to noise, changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, humid), standing/walking/bending/stooping/climbing stairs, maneuvering around manufacturing equipment consistently throughout the shift
  • Physical lifting ability up to 40-lbs unassisted frequently throughout the shift

Job Duties

  • Coordinate with maintenance management and facility management to utilize equipment to improve employee safety, production quality, equipment reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness
  • Supervise both the maintenance and capital projects for the site
  • Maintain safe, compliant operation of ammonia refrigeration, boilers, compressors, and high-speed packaging lines
  • Utilize mechanical and electrical expertise to maintain production systems, utilities, buildings, and grounds
  • Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to optimize asset utilization through scheduled preventative maintenance
  • Ensure that all utilities are in proper working order to support production
  • Implement corrective actions identified by key maintenance performance indicators to create overall equipment effectiveness
  • Remain current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation
  • Ensure corporate policies and standards are followed in both capital project implementation as well as daily maintenance
  • Complete all paperwork including maintenance records, incident reports and investigations, and others as assigned by the maintenance manager
  • Maintain current technical documentation on Programmable Logic Controls, instrumentation, and equipment (PLC ladder logic, blueprints, manuals, Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance procedures, Preventive Maintenance (PM) program), inventory/parts purchasing
  • Monitor and enforce policies, plant rules and programs with employees, contractors, vendors, consultants, and suppliers (i.e. safety, food safety, regulatory, etc.)
  • Engage in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating and delegating
