Job Description

The Maintenance Specialist position is an integral part of the Plant Department at Methodist Children’s Home, an agency committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children and families. Methodist Children’s Home operates with a mission and core values that emphasize moral and ethical behavior, and the Maintenance Specialist is expected to uphold these principles through their work and conduct. This institution is well-established and recognized for its dedicated services and supportive community impact.

As a Maintenance Specialist, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations that keep the physical facilities in excellent condition. You will report directly to the Senior Director for Property and be responsible for completing general maintenance and repairs within designated trades. The work is hands-on and requires technical skills to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and respond promptly to maintenance requests. By maintaining the facilities to a high standard, you contribute directly to the overall comfort, safety, and operational efficiency of the organization.

This role requires a full-time commitment, typically 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a 30-minute lunch break. Because the facilities operate continuously, the Maintenance Specialist must also be willing and able to work on-call shifts, including overtime during nights and weekends if necessary. The position includes working in potentially adverse conditions, ensuring that you can adapt to varying environments and challenges as they arise. To support communication and connectivity related to your duties, a technology stipend is provided.

Educationally, candidates for this position must have a high school diploma and a minimum of three years of experience in their designated trade. Previous experience in building maintenance and renovation is highly preferred, offering a competitive edge. In addition, specialized licensure or certification relevant to the trade is required and must be maintained. The organization mandates annual training to comply with accreditation standards as well as internal policies for ongoing professional development, which your supervisor may tailor to meet specific job needs or to support career growth.

Beyond technical skills, the Maintenance Specialist is expected to maintain impeccable professional standards, including a clean criminal history, a valid Texas driver’s license, and a driving record that meets the organization’s insurance requirements. At least 21 years of age, the staff member must also be flexible and willing to cross-train in various areas of the Plant Department, demonstrating versatility and a team-oriented attitude.

This job offers a starting hourly pay rate from $21.25, along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, financial security, and professional growth. These benefits include 401(k) options with matching contributions, dental and vision insurance, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, life insurance, paid time off, professional development assistance, a retirement plan, and tuition reimbursement opportunities.

Overall, the Maintenance Specialist role at Methodist Children’s Home provides an excellent opportunity for individuals with relevant experience to contribute to a meaningful mission while enjoying competitive benefits and professional growth in a stable, full-time position. You will be part of a team that values high ethical standards, technical expertise, and community service, working in a supportive environment where your efforts have a direct positive impact on the agency’s operations and the people it serves.
