The role of Facility Maintenance and Customer Service Technician at SP Plus is integral to maintaining the highest standards of facility upkeep and delivering exceptional customer service. This position involves a combination of maintenance tasks and direct customer interaction, ensuring that all areas within the parking facility remain clean, safe, and fully operational. The technician performs daily cleaning and maintenance duties such as sweeping, mopping, trash removal, painting, and minor repairs to keep the facility in pristine condition. Responsibilities also include inspecting and maintaining safety features such as gate arms and ticket spitters, fixing burnt-out bulbs, and applying oil absorbent to spills. In addition, the technician uses various maintenance equipment, including sweepers, scrubbers, and snow removal tools to manage facility grounds effectively.

Customer service is a critical component of this role, requiring the ability to respond to customer inquiries, assist with complaints, and ensure positive experiences at all times. The technician is expected to work independently with minimal supervision while being adaptable to cover other roles within the facility such as cashier or attendant duties as needed. Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and a positive demeanor are essential to represent SP Plus successfully in all customer-facing interactions. This role demands physical stamina since the technician will be on their feet for extended periods, performing tasks that involve bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in various weather conditions.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or combination of education and experience
  • valid state-issued driver’s license if driving company vehicles
  • availability to work various shifts including weekends and third shift if required
  • ability to communicate clearly and respond to customer inquiries
  • ability to adapt to change and work under pressure
  • physical ability to perform manual labor including lifting, climbing, stooping, and working in outdoor conditions

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform all maintenance and cleaning tasks noted in the checklists and as directed by the facility manager or supervisor
  • walk garage daily to note and correct any maintenance problems
  • sweep and pick up around entrances, exits, and stairwells
  • empty trashcans in the garage, booth, and office
  • paint facility areas as directed
  • replace burned out bulbs
  • apply oil absorbent to spills
  • submit maintenance requests
  • check conditions of safety items and operate gates and ticket spitters
  • provide ticket and gate counter records to the manager
  • keep inventory of janitorial supplies
  • maintain garage sweep sheet
  • operate automatic sweepers, scrubbers, and outdoor equipment
  • shovel, plow, or blow snow from designated areas
  • report violations or safety hazards
  • practice customer service behaviors to ensure successful interactions
  • assist customers and resolve complaints
  • cover other duties such as cashier or attendant as needed
  • maintain a neat, clean uniform
  • perform other assigned duties
