Located in Athens, GA, Novolex is currently seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic Expert to join their team. This full-time position offers a competitive starting wage of $32.16 per hour, along with a $5,000 sign-on bonus. The role operates on 8-hour shifts with a rotating weekly schedule switching between the 1st shift (7:00 AM to 3:00 PM) and the 2nd shift (3:00 PM to 11:00 PM). Maintenance mechanics at Novolex play a crucial role in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of machinery and production equipment. Responsibilities encompass preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic systems, and performing repairs and equipment upgrades. The mechanic expert contributes directly to minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting the overall productivity of the plant.
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in maintenance mechanics, along with the ability to pass the Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude test. Expertise in machining and welding, proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics, and knowledge of plumbing are also valuable assets. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of various industrial systems such as mechanical components (gears, pulleys, chains), electrical circuits, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and electronic programming platforms including PLCs and ladder logic. The position demands a strong work ethic, high attendance reliability, and the ability to work independently while prioritizing daily tasks effectively. Physical demands include standing for extended periods and lifting weights up to 50 pounds frequently. Compliance with all safety rules, including the use of personal protective equipment, is mandatory.

Job Requirements
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
- 3 to 5 years of experience in maintenance mechanics
- Must pass the Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude test
- Ability to work rotating shifts including 1st and 2nd shifts
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy objects
- Must comply with safety protocols and wear necessary PPE
- Valid welding experience (preferred)
- Proficient with reading blueprints
- Good attendance record
- Capable of independent work and prioritizing tasks
- Ability to wear protective gear as required.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of maintenance experience
- Ability to pass the Ramsey Mechanical Aptitude test
- Machining skills considered a plus
- Welding experience (TIG, Stick)
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics (electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic)
- Plumbing skills including threading and soldering joints
- Knowledge and experience with mechanical systems including gears, pulleys, chains, belts, shafts, industrial gear boxes, water pumps, air compressors, HVAC
- Understanding of electrical systems including AC/DC circuits, motors, drives, transformers, control power, and relays
- Understanding of pneumatic systems covering valves, controls, pressure, flow, and cylinders
- Understanding of hydraulic systems including valves, controls, pressure, flow, and cylinders
- Experience with electronic systems including controls, ladder logic, PLC programming, and C programming
- Good attendance and strong work ethic
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Ability to stand for 8 hours a day
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to wear required protective equipment.
Job Duties
- Complies with facility safety requirements by adhering to proper PPE rules and wearing required safety equipment
- Inspects defective equipment and diagnoses malfunctions using testing instruments, manuals, and hand and power tools
- Disassembles defective equipment or performs preventive maintenance, including facility maintenance
- Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure smooth operation of machines and building systems
- Reconditions and replaces parts, bearings, gears, installs functional and structural parts, and inspects machinery to diagnose malfunctions
- Changes oil, lubricants, batteries, checks compressors, power supplies, and conveyors
- Inspects and verifies dimensions and clearances of parts and assemblies
- May weld and cut parts using MIG/Arc welding equipment
- Adjusts functional parts of devices or control instruments using hand tools and measuring devices
- Maintains cleanliness and order of maintenance area and upkeep of tools and equipment
- Installs, diagnoses, and monitors production lines and press equipment
- Complies with all facility safety rules and procedures.
