The current opportunity is for a Service Manager role based at the 1221 Van property, part of JBG SMITH’s vibrant portfolio. This position offers an exciting prospect for candidates passionate about leading and inspiring service teams in a residential property setting. The Service Manager will use their technical expertise and leadership skills to maintain exceptional standards of upkeep in the community, ensuring residents enjoy the best apartment living experience possible. The role requires oversight of daily maintenance operations, including scheduling and prioritizing work orders, conducting move-out inspections, and managing the make-ready process to guarantee that vacant units are promptly prepared for new residents.

A critical aspect of this position involves building and fostering a cohesive team culture where technical proficiency and motivation thrive. The Service Manager will actively train, coach, and mentor service team members, balancing hands-on involvement with strategic supervisory duties. Job Requirements

  • Five years of maintenance experience in apartments, hotels, or similar environment
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • prior leadership and supervisory experience
  • CFC certification and plumbing and electrical training proficiency
  • completion of approved course on boiler and chiller maintenance for communities with a central plant or an approved course appropriate to individual HVAC systems or equivalent experience
  • passion for providing exceptional customer experiences and embodying core customer service elements including caring, professionalism, empowerment, leadership, and inclusion
  • valid driver’s license and dependable transportation including availability for on-call hours
  • ability to routinely lift up to 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Build a strong and cohesive service team that is technically proficient and motivated to perform including assisting, training, and coaching all service team members
  • set the daily work schedule to ensure that all work orders are addressed within 24 hours and all emergencies are handled immediately including on-call hours
  • conduct move-out inspections and oversee the make ready process to confirm that all vacant units are ready for show and resident move-in within 5 days
  • inspect the community daily to identify maintenance or repair needs
  • perform repairs and preventative maintenance on building systems
  • oversee work completed by vendors and staff to ensure it meets high quality standards
  • utilize a cost-effective approach to order parts, procure contracts, and reduce waste
  • maintain a safe work environment including conducting safety training and inspections
