The position of Maintenance Manager, based in Chula Vista, California, supports the MTS Contract and plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily activities of maintenance personnel, including mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and administrative staff. This role is fundamental in ensuring that all maintenance operations run smoothly across typically three-shift schedules, guaranteeing that all equipment maintenance, testing, and inspections meet stringent standards set by the Department of Transportation (DOT), clients, and company policies. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for managing workflow priorities, scheduling and training maintenance technicians, coordinating vendor services, and ensuring efficient operation of company and client vehicles and equipment.

Job Requirements

Be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future if based in the U.S.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
Must be subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable
Ability to work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions
Ability to sit for extended periods up to 6 to 8 hours per day
Ability to walk long distances on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
Ability to push and pull objects up to 50 pounds
Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
Ability to bend, kneel, or crouch occasionally
Ability to tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes and noise
Must maintain a drug-free workplace

Job Qualifications

High school diploma, GED or equivalent
Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred
7 years plus experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy-duty automotive and transit equipment
3 years plus of supervisory experience
Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy-duty transportation vehicles
Familiarity with laws and regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed
Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable

Job Duties

Hire, train and schedule Maintenance Technicians
Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations
Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors
Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently
Manage inventory
Implement safety policies and procedures for the department per corporate requirements
Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget
Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods
Other duties as required
Travel requirement outside of immediate area 10 percent
