The Maintenance Technician/Houseperson position is part of a dynamic hospitality establishment, typically found within the hotel industry, dedicated to providing exceptional guest experiences by maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. Hotels operate as full-service facilities offering lodging, dining, and various guest services which require a multitude of skilled staff to ensure operational excellence and customer satisfaction. This role is suited for an individual who thrives in a dual capacity that involves hands-on technical work as well as guest-facing responsibilities. The Maintenance Technician/Houseperson performs a wide array of duties that guarantee the operational efficiency of the hotel’s electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and safety systems. They also actively contribute to the cleanliness and orderly condition of public areas, guest rooms, and service zones. By handling routine repairs and preventative maintenance, responding promptly to guest requests, conducting regular area inspections, and helping with renovations or special projects, this position ensures a seamless guest experience and the longevity of the hotel’s infrastructure.

Beyond technical expertise, the role involves active collaboration with housekeeping teams by assisting with supplies and guest needs such as rollaway beds and cribs. Attention to detail is critical for this role, especially in monitoring for safety hazards, lost and found items, and property damage while maintaining high levels of cleanliness and organization. Adaptability and guest-focus are key attributes, as the individual is expected to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks efficiently, and maintain a welcoming and safe atmosphere for both guests and team members. Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift throughout the shift
  • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to safely use maintenance tools, equipment, and cleaning chemicals
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as business demands require

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical or vocational training preferred
  • Hotel maintenance or hospitality experience preferred but not required
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems
  • Prior housekeeping or houseperson experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, team members, and vendors
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks

Job Duties

  • Perform routine repairs and preventative maintenance on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and other building systems
  • Respond promptly to guest service requests and maintenance concerns
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, hotel grounds, and equipment
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and maintain accurate records
  • Repair and program electronic door lock systems as needed
  • Assist with renovations, special projects, and capital improvement initiatives
  • Ensure all emergency and life safety systems are maintained and functioning properly
  • Support energy conservation and sustainability efforts
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state, federal, and company safety regulations
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors when necessary
  • Perform general painting, carpentry, drywall, and basic repair work
  • Clean and maintain hotel public areas including hallways, elevators, stairwells, service areas, lobby spaces, and exterior entrances
  • Remove trash, soiled linens, and debris from guest floors and service areas
  • Assist housekeeping staff with supplies, rollaway beds, cribs, bed boards, and other operational needs
  • Deliver guest requests promptly and courteously
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, lost and found items, and damaged property
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of storage rooms, housekeeping closets, and maintenance areas
  • Assist with meeting room setups and hotel events as needed
  • Ensure all public areas remain guest-ready throughout the shift
  • Deliver exceptional guest service and uphold brand standards at all times
  • Follow all company safety, security, and operational policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
