The role available at the Scottsdale JW Marriott is for a full-time, non-management position within the Engineering and Facilities department. This position commands a vital responsibility in maintaining the hotel’s physical infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction. Paying $29.25 per hour, this role is suited for individuals with a strong background in general maintenance, electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical systems, particularly within hospitality environments.

As an Engineering Technician, you will be instrumental in responding promptly to guest repair requests, systematically performing preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Your expertise will ensure that all maintenance operations adhere to company standards and comply with local and national codes. The job entails conducting regular inspections of the property to identify hazards, operational issues, and maintenance needs, thereby supporting a safe and comfortable environment for guests and staff alike.

Beyond technical maintenance, this position requires excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with guests and coordinate with other team members across shifts using prescribed communication protocols. The role also demands proficiency in operating and maintaining various tools and equipment, including performing comprehensive inspections and repairs on HVAC, refrigeration, boilers, pumps, and pool heaters.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics, showcasing advanced engineering skills in several trade areas such as air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry, and pneumatic systems. They should also be adept at using engineering software related to preventive maintenance and energy management, highlighting a commitment to operational efficiency and sustainability.

Safety and professionalism are paramount. You will be expected to follow stringent safety policies, complete relevant trainings, and correctly use lockout/tagout systems. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • at least 2 years of related experience
  • valid driver's license
  • certification in refrigeration or electrical (earned or in progress)
  • universal chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification
  • ability to lift, carry, push, pull objects up to 50 pounds
  • ability to work on stairs, ramps, and ladders
  • ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics
  • compliance with safety and security protocols
  • no supervisory experience required

Job Qualifications

  • certificate in two-year technical diploma program for HVAC/refrigeration
  • extensive experience and training in general maintenance, electrical, or refrigeration
  • at least 2 years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience
  • valid driver’s license
  • license or certification in refrigeration or electrical (earned or in progress)
  • universal chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification
  • knowledge of building systems, emergency response, and building documentation
  • proficiency in engineering computer programs related to maintenance and energy management
  • strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

Job Duties

  • Respond to guest repair requests
  • communicate with guests and customers to resolve maintenance issues
  • perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment including cleaning and lubrication
  • visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines
  • maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed
  • perform routine inspections of property noting safety hazards and take corrective action
  • safely perform repairs of physical property including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems
