Job Description

Pacific Coast Producers is a growing agricultural cooperative with food production facilities located across the West Coast. Established in 1971, it is owned by over 165 family farmers who grow and supply various produce including tomatoes, peaches, pears, grapes, cherries, and other fruits to its production facilities in California and Oregon. With a workforce of over 3,000 dedicated employees, Pacific Coast Producers (PCP) is committed to delivering the finest quality products to customers across North America, serving grocery retailers and foodservice distributors throughout the United States and Canada. PCP values a legacy of innovation and excellence, making it a thriving cooperative that supports family farmers and food service industries alike.

The Salem, Oregon facility, where this position is based, produces maraschino cherries and other cherry products in multiple styles, colors, and flavors. This facility employs between 70-100 team members who work together to maintain high standards in food production. Salem is a vibrant city in the heart of the Willamette Valley—known for its thriving downtown, strong community spirit, and access to outdoor recreational opportunities. As Oregon's capital city, Salem offers the balance of urban amenities and a welcoming smaller community environment, conveniently located just a 45-minute drive from Portland.

The Maintenance Forklift Mechanic 2 role at PCP's Salem production facility is a full-time position that offers a competitive pay rate of $33.85 per hour, with a 40-hour workweek that may include some weekends and overtime as needed. This position is part of a seniority-based Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA), requiring flexibility to work various shifts. The Cooperative is deeply invested in building a culture of service where employees can excel and contribute meaningfully to producing affordable, high-quality food products for customers. Forklift mechanics at PCP play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of production lines by maintaining and repairing forklifts and related equipment to minimize downtime and uphold safety standards.

Job responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, maintaining both internal combustion and electric forklifts including battery systems and chargers, and responding promptly to equipment breakdowns. Accurate documentation through maintenance records and work orders is essential, as is ensuring all repairs comply with safety regulations and company standards. Communication with supervisors and operations staff about equipment status and repair timelines is also a key part of this role. Maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment is prioritized alongside adhering strictly to food safety protocols. Because PCP operates as a food processing facility, employees are required to uphold the safety and quality of the facilities and production at all times, reporting any food safety concerns immediately.

Working at PCP offers more than just a job—it provides long-term career stability, a respectful and inclusive work environment, and a comprehensive benefits package. Employees benefit from competitive pay, overtime opportunities, affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement plans including a defined-benefit pension for long-term security. Paid time off such as holidays, vacation, sick leave, and bereavement is offered per the CBA contract. Additional perks include an Employee Assistance Program, life insurance, and the opportunity to be part of a 50-plus year legacy of farmer-owned, innovative food production companies. PCP is committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action, ensuring a workplace free from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status by law. By joining PCP, candidates become part of a team dedicated to excellence, safety, and superior customer service in the agricultural and food processing industry.
