The Maintenance Technician role at Volunteers of America Western Washington is a vital position responsible for ensuring that the organization’s properties and facilities are well-maintained, safe, and functional. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician performs a variety of general maintenance tasks including routine and preventive maintenance, groundskeeping, and janitorial duties. This role requires collaboration with external vendors to maintain facilities effectively while managing agency expenditures prudently.

The technician’s work involves tasks related to carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, masonry, and painting. The ability to identify situations that require specialized contractors and coordinate accordingly is essential. This proactive maintenance approach ensures buildings and grounds owned, leased, or operated by VOAWW remain in good repair and are conducive to the diverse activities the organization undertakes.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years experience as janitor/maintenance including plumbing, light electrical, drywall, painting, landscaping and carpentry
  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment and chemical makeup including OSHA standards
  • Experience with hand, power and landscaping tools
  • Friendly professional able to work with all levels of employees/volunteers
  • Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and internet research
  • Current clean Washington State driver’s license
  • May be required to drive personal vehicle occasionally
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds
  • Based in Everett and able to travel to sites north to Bellingham, south to Seattle, east to Skykomish/Sultan
  • Willingness to perform janitorial duties

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Perform a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and painting tasks
  • Exercise discretion in identifying projects requiring higher skilled crafts persons
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance
  • Conduct groundskeeping and janitorial duties
  • Collaborate with various vendors to maintain facilities and control expenditures
  • Report maintenance issues to the Maintenance Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
