Job Description
The City of Laredo, located in the vibrant and culturally rich area of Laredo, Texas, is known for its commitment to providing its community with various recreational, cultural, and public services that enhance the quality of life for its residents. The city's Parks and Recreation Department plays a central role in maintaining and developing public spaces for residents to enjoy, including parks, sports complexes, and community events. One of the key facilities managed by this department is the Buena Vista Sports Complex, a popular venue known for its well-maintained grounds and facilities that support a wide range of sports and special community events. As a part of the City of Laredo's workforce, the Parks and Recreation team is dedicated to upholding a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors, while also ensuring the smooth operation of various special events held throughout the year. This team is comprised of professionals who foster a positive image of the City and work collaboratively to meet the needs of the community.
This specific role is for a part-time Maintenance Worker position at the Buena Vista Sports Complex, offering an hourly wage of $13.67. This position is a vital part of the Parks and Recreation Department's mission to maintain high-quality public spaces and support special events in the complex. The role involves assisting in routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, floor care, painting, and minor repairs, alongside preparing facilities for special events by setting up tents, tables, and chairs. The Maintenance Worker also performs groundskeeping duties including mowing, edging, and general landscape upkeep. This is a physically demanding position that requires the ability to exert force to move objects and work in various weather conditions, often outdoors. It requires a hands-on approach and the ability to work independently as well as under the direction of supervisors.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with at least three months of general maintenance work experience who can maintain the cleanliness and functionality of grounds and facilities. They must have reliable transportation, as punctuality and the ability to arrive on time are critical given the scheduled nature of events and maintenance activities. While this position does not include benefits, it offers an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the community and gain valuable experience working within municipal operations. The role also supports a diverse working environment, emphasizing respect, professionalism, and effective communication skills in both English and Spanish. This job is suitable for individuals who enjoy hands-on maintenance work and who thrive in dynamic, outdoor environments where every day presents new challenges and opportunities to contribute to the community's well-being.
