The position of Maintainer I - RLTAC offers an exciting opportunity to join the Facilities Department at RCC, specifically supporting the maintenance and upkeep of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center and surrounding campus grounds. This is a full-time, unionized role under the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement, with a shift schedule option between 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The position is compensated according to Grade 10 Step 1 of the AFSCME CBA. The expected start date is between March and April 2026, and applications will be accepted until the role is filled.

As a Maintainer I, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, grounds-keeping, and general maintenance tasks throughout the RCC campus with a particular focus on the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. This role requires a dedicated individual who can carry out routine cleaning of classrooms, meeting rooms, restrooms, corridors, and other common areas by washing, waxing, buffing, sweeping, polishing, dusting, and vacuuming. Additionally, the maintainer will be responsible for waste management duties such as emptying and cleaning trash receptacles.

Manual labor tasks are a significant part of this position, including loading and unloading materials, delivering goods across campus, and assisting skilled trade technicians with routine maintenance activities. The maintainer also plays a role in campus security by locking and unlocking the premises and reporting any hazardous or unusual situations to the appropriate authorities promptly.

Grounds-keeping responsibilities are diverse and include operating powered equipment like electric trimmers and buffers, grass cutting, clearing drains, snow removal, sanding or ice-melt spreading, cleaning walkways, roads, and parking lots, as well as painting fences, posts, and the exterior of buildings. The maintainer is also tasked with caring for plants, trees, and flowers on campus, sweeping sidewalks, and removing leaves and debris to maintain a neat and pleasant campus environment.

This role demands physical stamina and manual dexterity, as well as the ability to work safely on ladders and scaffolding. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and be able to follow oral and written instructions carefully. Working harmoniously with coworkers, faculty, staff, students, and visitors is essential to maintaining a positive campus atmosphere. Legal authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. Job Duties

  • Clean classrooms, meeting rooms, bathrooms, corridors, walls by washing, waxing, buffing, sweeping, polishing, dusting, and vacuum cleaning

  • perform manual labor such as loading/unloading freight materials or equipment and delivering goods
