Job Description

USAA is a leading financial services company dedicated to empowering its members, primarily the military community and their families, to achieve financial security through competitive products, exceptional service, and trusted advice. Founded with a mission to be the number one choice for military members, USAA upholds core values such as honesty, integrity, loyalty, and service in its culture. The company prides itself on fostering a supportive work environment, especially for active-duty military spouses, offering flexible work arrangements including remote or hybrid options where applicable. Their commitment extends beyond financial products to encompass a holistic support system for employees and members alike.\n\nThe Senior Mainframe CICS Systems Programmer position at USAA is part of the Mainframe Infrastructure team, which plays a vital role in managing and optimizing the IBM Customer Information Control System (CICS) on z/OS mainframes. CICS serves as a critical middleware platform that handles high-volume online transaction processing essential to USAA's business operations. This role involves comprehensive responsibilities from installation, configuration, and tuning of CICS environments to performance monitoring and capacity management. The candidate will be expected to support the reliability and efficiency of mission-critical applications through expertise in mainframe systems, programming, and automation.\n\nThe ideal professional will have substantial experience with CICS Transaction Server, z/OS operating systems, and related technologies like COBOL, JCL, and REXX. They will be responsible for ensuring seamless system performance, managing complex technical issues, and automating routine tasks to enhance system management. This position requires a hands-on approach and a deep understanding of system integration with other z/OS subsystems such as DB2 and MQ.\n\nIn addition to technical duties, the role includes mentoring junior engineers, improving engineering best practices, and contributing to the company’s risk management and compliance efforts. This is a dynamic position requiring the ability to work after hours or on-call when needed to maintain the availability of critical financial transaction systems. The position is based in one of several USAA locations including San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Charlotte, NC; Phoenix, AZ; or Tampa, FL and offers a flexible work environment that requires office presence four days a week. Relocation assistance is provided, and the salary range spans from $114,080 to $218,030 based on experience and location. USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.\n\nWorking at USAA means becoming part of a company that not only values technical excellence but also deeply respects the military community it serves. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package designed to support their physical, financial, and emotional wellness, with programs and policies that promote work-life balance, professional development, and community involvement. This Senior Mainframe CICS Systems Programmer role offers an excellent opportunity to work on critical financial infrastructure with a company committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing stable career growth in a mission-driven environment.
