Job Description

This job opening is for the position of Main Cook within the Operations department of a reputable dining establishment. The Main Cook role is a non-exempt position offering a pay rate of $24.50 per hour. The role reports directly to the Concept Manager and is integral to ensuring food preparation and service meet the highest quality standards.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of 1 year experience in kitchen preparation and cooking
  • ability to follow standard portion sizes and cooking methods
  • must be physically capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to maintain clean and sanitary workstations
  • willingness to work shifts including overtime and overnight differentials

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking
  • excellent customer service skills
  • good communication skills
  • good teamwork approach to daily tasks
  • must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel
  • be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds
  • be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time up to 10 hours

Job Duties

  • Knows and complies consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures
  • stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period
  • portions food products according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
  • maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, paste cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment
  • follows proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes
  • assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed
  • closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations
  • assists others in closing the kitchen
  • attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement
  • answer questions about food, beverages and other restaurant functions and services
  • perform side work at the start and end of each shift as required by line station assignment
  • maintain clean service areas
  • performs other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty
