The MRI department at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is currently seeking a skilled Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologist to join their team. This full-time position offers a 36-hour workweek with shifts scheduled Friday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The compensation starts at $35.81 per hour, with daily pay options available. Additionally, the role includes shift differentials, particularly weekend options with an extra $7.50 per hour for night, weekend, and additional shifts. To further support recruitment, a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available, paid in full on the first paycheck. The hospital also offers relocation assistance for qualified candidates and a 100% tuition benefit for full-time employees pursuing additional certifications, which may include MRI cross-training.

This Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist role primarily involves performing diagnostic medical imaging through magnetic resonance, including specialized modalities such as Cardiac MRI, Intraoperative MRI, and invasive procedures. Under the supervision of Radiologists, the Director, and the Manager, the technologist will conduct MR examinations, ensuring patient safety, producing high-quality images, and maintaining accurate documentation. The technologist will also engage in patient preparation, including venipuncture for contrast administration, and will apply their knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to recognize abnormalities and appropriately alert medical staff. Exceptional communication skills are essential to effectively interact with patients, families, and coworkers while promoting a safe and respectful environment.

The role demands adherence to stringent departmental policies related to safety, infection control, environmental standards, and quality assurance programs. The MRI technologist will also be responsible for operating hospital information systems, maintaining confidentiality of patient information, and contributing to continuous performance improvement initiatives. Age-appropriate care is a crucial component, requiring the technologist to competently serve diverse populations from infants to geriatric patients according to their specific needs. Specialized care provisions for high-risk patients include restraint management, pain assessment and relief, and abuse recognition and reporting.

Ideal candidates will hold an accredited MRI certification or be eligible to obtain such certification within 12 months of hire, alongside their ARRT credentials and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. A minimum of 1 to 3 years of MRI experience, particularly in a Level 1 trauma center or academic facility, is preferred. The role involves exposure to biological hazards such as bloodborne pathogens and necessitates physical stamina for standing, walking, lifting heavy equipment, and patient transfers.
