Job Description

Rosewood Sand Hill is a prestigious luxury hotel located in Menlo Park, California, renowned for its five-star accommodations and exceptional guest services. Opened in 2009, this elegant property is nestled on 16 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in the heart of Silicon Valley, offering guests a serene retreat amidst the dynamic environment of the Bay Area. With its historic California ranch-style architecture and breathtaking views of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Rosewood Sand Hill blends the charm of classic design with modern luxury and comfort. The hotel is a favored destination for executives, entrepreneurs, local residents, and travelers seeking an upscale experience.

Rosewood Sand Hill features 121 impeccably appointed guest rooms and suites, designed to provide maximum comfort and relaxation. Guests can enjoy premium amenities including Sense, A Rosewood Spa®, known for its comprehensive wellness treatments, and Madera Restaurant, celebrated for its use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients in its dining offerings. The hotel prioritizes delivering personalized and attentive service, aiming to create memorable experiences that cater to the diverse needs of its clientele.

The role of the Madera Host/ess (Greeter) is a vital position within Rosewood Sand Hill’s Food & Beverage Services department. This full-time, permanent position is focused on ensuring an exceptional dining experience for all guests visiting the Madera Restaurant. The Host/ess acts as the first point of contact for both phone and in-person reservations, providing courteous and professional support to guests. A major responsibility is managing seating arrangements efficiently to optimize restaurant flow during daily and nightly services while maintaining an inviting ambiance. The job demands a flexible schedule, with a particular emphasis on morning and early afternoon availability to meet operational needs.

In this role, the Host/ess must possess thorough knowledge of departmental policies, service standards, and procedures to uphold superior standards of guest service at all times. The position requires familiarity with the restaurant’s layout, table settings, operational hours, dress code, and inventory of liquor brands and menu items, including details about preparation methods and prices. Compliance with state liquor laws, especially those concerning service to minors and intoxicated individuals, is critical.

The Host/ess will be expected to execute opening and closing duties, such as setting up tables and condiments, replenishing supplies, preparing light food items, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the service areas and equipment. Additionally, the role involves actively engaging guests by anticipating their needs, managing special requests, and handling complaints with professionalism to ensure guest satisfaction. Effective communication with servers, kitchen staff, and other team members is essential to coordinating a seamless dining service.

Candidates should have at least six months of experience in a similar role, preferably in a luxury or ultra-luxury restaurant environment, demonstrating skills in guest relations, multitasking, and maintaining high standards. A high school diploma is required, with certifications in alcohol service, food and beverage training, and CPR considered advantageous. Physical stamina is important, as the role involves periods of standing, walking, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

The pay scale for this position ranges from $24.51 to $27.23 per hour, supplemented by commissions, bonuses, upsell incentives, and tips, reflecting the importance Rosewood Sand Hill places on rewarding outstanding performance. The hotel is committed to equal employment opportunities and fosters a workplace free from discrimination and harassment. Joining Rosewood Sand Hill means becoming part of a distinguished team dedicated to excellence in hospitality within a vibrant and picturesque setting.
