Job Description

Massachusetts College of Art and Design, commonly known as MassArt, is a distinguished public art and design college located in Boston, Massachusetts. Established in 1873, MassArt holds the unique distinction of being the nation's first and only independent, free-standing public college solely dedicated to art and design education. Nestled in Boston’s cultural hub along the Avenue of the Arts, MassArt serves a vibrant community of approximately 2,000 students offering an extensive range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across 18 artistic disciplines. The college also provides continuing education and youth programs, enriching the local and broader community through diverse educational opportunities.

MassArt is renowned for its commitment to fostering inclusion and diversity, aiming to cultivate an environment that welcomes individuals from all walks of life. This dedication is demonstrated through the representation of various cultural identities within the campus body and the breadth of initiatives designed to support equity and belonging. The college prides itself on a collaborative atmosphere where co-workers and students freely share information and support, fostering a vibrant community centered on creative expression and personal growth.

The MassArt Activities Council (MAC) is a dynamic student organization dedicated to enhancing the student experience through a broad spectrum of engaging events and programs. These activities are crafted to complement academic learning by offering educational, diverse, and entertaining experiences that contribute to personal development and foster campus unity. The MAC plays a pivotal role in connecting students to a vibrant campus life, ensuring a balanced blend of scholarship and recreation.

The position of Live Entertainment Coordinator within the MAC Executive Board is a vital role that directly supports the mission to enrich student life. This role is a contract-based position with an hourly pay rate of $15, expecting a commitment of 2.5 to 20 hours per week. The Live Entertainment Coordinator takes the lead in overseeing live entertainment events such as open mic nights, drag shows, comedy performances, and other culturally relevant live programming. This role is not only about managing events but also about nurturing relationships between talent and the MAC Board to ensure seamless collaborations and positive event experiences.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator of Student Engagement, the Live Entertainment Coordinator serves as the principal liaison for live entertainment activities, facilitating effective communication among performers, advisors, and the student body. The role demands flexibility, including the availability to work during evening hours, as many events occur outside traditional academic schedules. Moreover, the position involves contributing to event planning and execution in alignment with guidelines established in the MAC Handbook, ensuring that all programming meets the council's standards of excellence.

Candidates interested in this position must be full-time undergraduate students at MassArt in good academic and disciplinary standing. This eligibility ensures that those representing the MAC Board maintain a commitment to both their academic pursuits and their leadership responsibilities on campus. The role provides an unparalleled opportunity to develop critical skills in event management, leadership, and community engagement, making it an excellent choice for students passionate about performing arts, entertainment coordination, and student affairs.

MassArt does not support employment-based visa sponsorship or non-student exchange visitor visa sponsorship, and it is not an E-Verify institution. Selected candidates must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States, complete required background checks, and provide necessary documentation within three days of employment to comply with employment eligibility verification requirements.

By joining the MassArt Activities Council as the Live Entertainment Coordinator, students become integral contributors to a vibrant campus culture that celebrates creativity, inclusivity, and student leadership. This role offers meaningful involvement in shaping events that profoundly impact the MassArt student community, enriching their collegiate experience and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts and cultural diversity.
