Job Description

Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant is a not-for-profit senior living community dedicated to providing compassionate care and support to its residents. Located in a serene setting, the facility emphasizes creating a warm and respectful environment where residents can enjoy a high quality of life. As part of Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland, Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant exemplifies a mission-driven approach that puts people first, valuing every resident and team member as integral parts of the community. The organization is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and collaboration, making it an employer of choice for professionals who value meaningful work and positive impact. This commitment extends to offering a competitive benefits package that supports employees in their personal and professional lives.

We are currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Prep Cook (Cook I) to join our caring team at Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant. This position is scheduled for Monday through Friday, 11:30am to 7:30pm, with every other weekend rotation, providing a structured yet dynamic work environment. The role of the Cook I is crucial to our food service operations, responsible for preparing and cooking meals according to standardized recipes and dietary requirements, ensuring food safety, cleanliness, and quality standards are consistently met. The individual in this role will support daily kitchen operations, work closely with other staff members, and contribute to a positive dining experience for residents and guests alike.

The Prep Cook will engage in a variety of culinary tasks including seasoning, tasting, carving, and serving menu items, as well as operating kitchen equipment to prepare ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, and fish. Attention to detail is paramount as the role involves estimating food quantities, reviewing menus, maintaining production records, and managing inventory to meet daily food service needs. Adherence to health and safety standards is critical, with responsibilities extending to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment, documenting temperature logs and cleaning checklists, and participating in ongoing training including ServSafe Food Handler certification.

This role is not only about food preparation; it also involves collaboration within an interdepartmental team to ensure seamless food service and a welcoming atmosphere. Candidates must display professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment, especially when handling sensitive and confidential information. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to effectively interact with residents, staff, families, vendors, and external authorities. The ability to work independently and as part of a team with a cooperative and compassionate attitude is highly valued. Physical stamina is necessary as the job requires moving throughout the workday and lifting items up to 50 pounds safely. Commitment to organizational health and safety policies, including vaccination requirements or exemptions, is also expected.

At Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant, your work will be more than just a job. It is a vital contribution to a community that deeply values each individual. Joining this team means becoming part of a supportive culture that promotes professional growth, offers competitive wages, health, dental, and vision insurance, paid disability and life insurance, retirement plan contributions, paid time off, professional development opportunities, and scholarship options.
