Job Description

Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant is a not-for-profit community committed to providing compassionate and high-quality living experiences for its residents. We are currently seeking a dedicated Full-Time Prep Cook to join our caring team. This position operates Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 7:30pm, with an every-other-weekend rotation. The Cook I role is pivotal in ensuring that our residents and guests enjoy nutritious, safe, and quality meals prepared in accordance with standardized recipes and specific dietary requirements. This role not only involves meal preparation and cooking but also requires maintaining stringent food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards. The individual will contribute to daily kitchen operations, collaborate effectively with other departments, and support a positive dining experience within our community.

At Lutheran Village Miller's Grant, the Full-Time Prep Cook is responsible for following production guidelines, estimating food quantities, managing inventory, and customizing meals to meet special dietary needs while adhering to facility policies. Additionally, the cook is expected to maintain documentation related to food safety and production, participate in training programs including ServSafe Food Handler certification, and foster a warm and respectful environment for all residents and team members. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of work-related experience preferred
  • physically able to lift items up to 50 pounds
  • ability to comply with organizational health and safety policies
  • willingness to complete ServSafe Food Handler certification within 90 days of hire

  • strong attention to detail in writing proofreading managing priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment demonstrating a cooperative respectful and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care
  • skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology
  • maintains professionalism composure and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations
  • physically able to move throughout the workday and lift items up to 50 pounds using safe handling practices
  • complies with organizational health and safety requirements including vaccination policies or valid exemptions

Job Duties

  • prepare and cook food items by following basic recipes and production guidelines including seasoning tasting carving and serving menu items
  • operate kitchen equipment and utensils to measure mix cut peel shred and trim ingredients including fruits vegetables meats poultry and fish
  • estimate food quantities review menus maintain production records and requisition necessary supplies to meet daily food service needs
  • accommodate special dietary requirements and prepare meals to order following verbal or written instructions as needed
  • receive and manage inventory lifting and moving food supplies as required
  • ensure cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment in compliance with regulatory and food safety standards
  • maintain all required documentation including temperature logs production records and cleaning checklists
