The Bartender role at Bernardus Lodge & Spa is a key position within the Food and Beverage team, responsible for assuring that established standards and procedures are consistently applied throughout daily operations. The ideal candidate will bring professionalism and a refined skill set in beverage service to maintain the high reputation of the lodge. This position requires a proactive approach to customer service, ensuring guests' needs and preferences are anticipated and met promptly. Bartenders are pivotal in creating an enjoyable dining and leisure environment by providing knowledgeable and personable service, maintaining a presence behind the bar, and assisting colleagues when needed. The role involves strict adherence to the lodge’s standard operating procedures, including fiscal responsibility by minimizing waste and working safely in a busy yet welcoming setting.

The candidate will be expected to demonstrate full knowledge of the menu, wine list, and beverage options including spirits, beers, wines by-the-glass, after-dinner drinks, non-alcoholic offerings, coffee, and tea. Proficiency with the POS system is essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with guests, management, and peers. The role demands the physical ability to handle the labor-intensive aspects of bartending, such as lifting and standing for extended periods in varying environmental conditions typical to the lodge’s location. Job Requirements

  • Previous bartending experience
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 45 lbs or more such as tables, kegs, chairs
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Must speak and communicate in English
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with guests, management and coworkers
  • Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US
  • Must meet legal age requirements for the position
  • Must have Food Handler Certificate
  • Must have TIPs certificate

Job Qualifications

  • Previous bartending experience
  • Basic knowledge of food and beverage
  • Knowledge of spirits/beer selection
  • Ability to multi-task and handle high pressure situations
  • Personable and great people skills
  • Awareness of guest consumption
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must provide valid document(s) to work in the US
  • Must meet legal age requirements for the position

Job Duties

  • Has full knowledge and understanding of the menus
  • Has a working knowledge of the wine list, and all beverages served including spirits, beers, wines by-the-glass, after dinner drinks, non-alcoholic offerings and coffee and tea options
  • Understands the operation of the POS system
  • Constantly monitors guest's needs and responds promptly
  • Maintains presence behind the bar
  • Respects co-workers and guests alike
  • Assists co-workers when necessary
  • Maintain a positive attitude
  • Support safe work habits and a safe working environment at all times
  • Other duties and jobs may be assigned as needed by supervisor
