The role of Houseworker at UMass Memorial Health is a vital position focused on maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of hospital facilities to foster a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This full-time, non-exempt position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $15.00 to $22.29, with the potential for a signing bonus depending on eligibility. The Houseworker role requires onsite availability primarily at the University Campus in Worcester, MA, working Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, including some weekend shifts to ensure continuous support throughout the hospital. As a Houseworker, you will play an integral part in upholding the hospital’s standards by performing routine cleaning tasks in all areas of the hospital, including patient rooms, surgical areas, nursing stations, lounges, emergency rooms, and isolation units.

The responsibilities for this position include comprehensive cleaning tasks such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, polishing fixtures, and burnishing floors with specialized equipment. The Houseworker will also support the hospital’s operational efficiency by moving furniture and setting up meeting rooms as needed. This role demands diligence, attention to detail, the capability to follow instructions accurately, and a commitment to maintaining a hygienic environment that reduces the risk of infections and enhances patient recovery. While prior experience in a similar role is preferred, the organization welcomes candidates who demonstrate the ability to learn and grow within this role. Job Duties

  • Performs standard cleaning procedures in all areas of the hospital and buildings including patient rooms, surgery areas, units, nurseries, nursing stations, auxiliary areas, lounges, isolation areas, emergency room lavatories, bathrooms, stairways, offices, corridors, and apartments
  • Performs high dusting, spot cleaning of walls, windows, and doors, disinfects horizontal surfaces, mops floors, vacuums carpets, empties trash and cleans and polishes metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms and showers
  • Burnishes floors with burnishers and cleans floors with automatic floor machines
  • Performs checkout cleaning of discharges and transfer units including making of the beds
  • Picks up trash in any area and transports trash from utility rooms and other collection points to compactor pick up area
