Job Description

U-Haul is a well-established moving equipment and storage rental company that has been serving do-it-yourself movers across the United States and Canada since 1945. Founded by L.S. "Sam" Shoen and Anna Mary Carty Shoen, U-Haul emerged from a pressing need for affordable, accessible one-way moving solutions. The company's iconic orange trailers and trucks have become synonymous with self-moving and household relocation services, facilitating the mobility of millions of Americans and Canadian residents. Over the decades, U-Haul has grown into a leader within the moving and storage industry, priding itself on exceptional customer service, reliable equipment, and a vast network of rental locations.

U-Haul is currently seeking friendly, motivated individuals for the position of Customer Service Representative, also known as Lot Attendant. This position requires a people-oriented attitude and a passion for helping customers navigate their moving journeys with ease. As a Lot Attendant, you will play a vital role as the face of U-Haul's exceptional service, acting as a primary point of contact for customers both inside and outside the U-Haul retail environment. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and maintaining moving equipment, such as trucks, trailers, and other rental gear, ensuring that all items meet safety and operational standards before and after use. You will also assist customers with their rental needs, providing guidance on products and services, and using cutting-edge technology like smartphone-based U-Scan to manage inventory, rentals, and returns.

In this hands-on role, you will be involved in tasks such as connecting trucks and trailers, installing hitches and trailer wiring, filling propane tanks (with certification provided upon employment), and even operating a forklift once certified. U-Haul offers robust on-the-job training and ongoing education through their U-Haul University program, creating a unique environment for career growth and skill development. The company values career stability and offers plentiful opportunities for advancement within their retail and operational teams.

Included in the employment package are attractive incentives like same-day pay through unique hands-on working interviews and a generous $100 hiring bonus. Additional financial rewards include a $300 cash bonus awarded upon completion of the U-Haul Equipment Inspection and Verification through the 1-2-3 Punch Certification Program.

U-Haul is committed to the health and wellness of its employees, offering a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, prescription plans, dental, vision, life insurance, and legal assistance through MetLaw. Employees also enjoy paid holidays, vacation, and sick days when eligible. There are discounts on popular tech products and services, a 401(k) savings plan, an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), and programs like Dave Ramsey's SmartDollar for financial wellness. Other perks include gym reimbursements, Mindset App reimbursements, 24-hour pediatric physician access, identity theft protection with LifeLock, business travel insurance, and an employee assistance program (You Matter EAP).

The work environment for this role involves moderate physical activity such as handling heavy equipment (50 lbs or more), maneuvering vehicles and trailers, and using safety gear as required. This position requires a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, with a high school diploma or equivalent as the minimum education level. U-Haul strongly promotes a diverse and inclusive workplace and is an equal opportunity employer committed to accommodating applicants with disabilities throughout the hiring process.

Overall, the Lot Attendant role at U-Haul offers a dynamic, supportive, and rewarding career path for individuals eager to grow, collaborate in a team environment, and provide outstanding customer service in the moving and storage industry.
