Job Description
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands (BGCM) is a well-established nonprofit organization affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. BGCM serves as a vital community resource dedicated to providing a comprehensive out-of-school experience that supports and empowers vulnerable youth throughout the Midlands. The organization is committed to creating a world-class Club Experience aimed at ensuring that every young person who enters its doors is on a path to success. BGCM's vision emphasizes helping youth graduate from high school equipped with a concrete plan for their future while fostering good character, citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. BGCM has built a reputation for being a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where youth from diverse backgrounds can thrive, develop critical life skills, and build positive relationships with peers and adult mentors.
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands' South Club at 5051 South 22nd Street is currently seeking a part-time Locker Room Attendant. This role reports directly to the Aquatics Director/Specialist and offers a starting wage of $15 per hour. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule, providing a structured and consistent work environment. The Locker Room Attendant is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and smooth operation of the locker room, pool area, and deck. This role supports the overall Aquatics Program by providing youth supervision and handling the logistical operations related to swim gear such as swim suits and towels.
The Locker Room Attendant plays a key supportive role by ensuring that proper swim suits are distributed according to swimmer capabilities—distinguishing between deep-water and shallow-water swimmers through collaboration with the Aquatics Program Specialist. They are responsible for collecting and laundering swim suits and towels, maintaining the locker room's cleanliness through daily sweeping and mopping, and hosing down the deck weekly. Additionally, the attendant keeps the laundry room organized and ensures the washers and dryers are properly maintained. Providing additional supervision during swim sessions and assisting with special swim events like IM Swim sessions are also part of the job. Although attendants may join the youth in the water, the primary focus remains on safety and supervision.
This role requires an individual who possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with youth, staff, volunteers, and community members. Ideal candidates will demonstrate compassion and sensitivity toward diverse populations and vulnerable youth, aligning with BGCM's mission and core values. While lifeguard certification and bilingual skills are preferred, candidates must be at least 16 years old, able to navigate virtual environments, and capable of earning mandatory CPR and First Aid certification. Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, virtual meeting platforms, and Google tools is also required, reflecting the organization's integration of technology in daily operations. The successful candidate must maintain a valid driver's license with eligibility to drive BGCM vehicles, pass background checks, and have reliable transportation to ensure punctuality and consistent attendance.
By joining BGCM as a Locker Room Attendant, candidates become part of an impactful organization that prioritizes youth development, safety, and community engagement. This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to youth wellbeing and growth in a structured, supportive environment while gaining valuable work experience in aquatics and nonprofit youth services.
